La Niña is weakening — and the Pacific may be setting up for El Niño later this year. Spring: Likely ENSO-neutral Summer/Fall: El Niño becomes favored (~60%) Why this matters: Western U.S. snowpack is in poor shape right now. If El Niño develops and persists into next winter, it could shift storm tracks south and improve precipitation odds in parts of California and the Southwest. Too early for guarantees. But the atmospheric chessboard is moving. We’ll be watching closely. 🌊

With 6.8" on the season so far, Denver is officially woefully behind in snowfall - currently the 6th least snowy season to date on record since 1882. This 2026 snowfall season trails 1882, 1889, 2011, 1891, and 1945. Following up on previous posts, Denver continues to see its next snow chance later this week.
