Moses Izumi

@moses_izumi@fe.disroot.org
akkoma 3.17.0-0-g06589d9--stable-
A man whose mind is a haze of swedish punk rock, fantasies about musclegirls, and strong opinions on portable electronics (and slightly less stubborn views on Free Software).

I do a little venting, but always strive to find some form of silver lining: to leave a bright impression rather than poisoning the WWW with unprovoked cynicism.

Picked my username because I believe that Noa Izumi from the Mobile Police Patlabor franchise is a pretty good "patron saint of technologists"-figure (give or take the cop thing) and would make a better FOSS mascot than most of the existing ones (Puffy is alright).
Read the pinned post for more details and a fancy collage.

== Interests ==
- Making simple gameplay mods for ZDoom
(weapons, player movement, jetpacks)

- Hacker conferences, i.e CCC
(never been to one, but the talks eviscerate 99% of tech Youtube)

- Reading: tech blogs, manga, religious works
(TechTipsy, @domi@donotsta.re 's blog, even Hackaday if I'm desperate)
(Patlabor, Rayearth, anything by Shirow Masamune)
(New Testament, The Religion of the Samurai)

- Videogames
(Colin McRae Rally, Quake, Kung-Fu Master, Millipede, Devil World)

- Permacomputing
(mainly interested in the "my laptop from 2003 works fine, get off my lawn Microslop"-part of their philosophy to be frank)

- Birds
(kinda want to scratch a Golden Eagle under the chin, I find them oddly cute)
(don't get why the Mozilla Internet Suite's grandson is called Seamonkey instead of Albatross or something)

Profile pic is Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell (manga version) drinking a comically oversized beer.

My case for using privacy frontends (i.e Invidious and NewPipe for Youtube) is less about service providers tracking my steps and more about them using said information to bombard me with recommendations for baubles and propaganda. Using corporate social media is eerily close to getting blackmailed, or picking up a hammer that possesses you into slaughtering the woodshop teacher. (only be a matter of time before @pluralistic@mamot.fr finds this post and adopts my metaphor) RE: https://mastodon.social/@glyph/115986846050028964

@wyatt@soc.megatokyo.moe My dad was fairly hands-off regarding what me and my brothers did on our computers, other than strongly discouraging us from playing World of Warcraft for being notoriously addictive and time-consuming. We didn't chat with strangers and got to see glimpses of the pre-social media/"endless scroll" world: so expecting your kids to move on and read a book, build with LEGO or play outside for the rest of the day was a viable tactic.

@hikari@social.noyu.me The only reason it wouldn't be embraced by the Stallmanites is that Win32 is still a living platform (despite MS's attempts to replace it with UWP or whatever) and that Wine gets better compatibility when using the official libraries. An even funnier scenario would be if it went full circle and got ported to MS-DOS: anything recent enough to run a current Wine could probably run it under aHaiku or NetBSD just fine. I'm more interested in using it as a contained environment than as a replacement for Plasma and XFCE.
