@notjustbikes@social.notjustbikes.com just watched your great video about Google Maps sucking at bike navigation in Europe. Wanted to add that is also sucks for regular driving navigation in North America too. Maybe it just sucks in general?

It regularly recommends a “faster route” that involves turning left from a side street across a six lane megastroad, often with a concrete median.

Going for a drive in the country in January? It knows a faster route (by 1 minute) that takes you down a gravel road that hasn’t been plowed since November.

Even decades later, it still doesn’t understand the collector/express system in Toronto. It makes you randomly switch between lanes with no clear reason.

And my favourite: it made me get off the highway, do a u-turn and get back on in the same direction, simply because there was “less traffic” on the ramps.

I’ve basically given up on it as a tool for directions. I just ask people “how should I get there” and follow their human instructions. Billions of dollars, for this.

No other nation has ever, and probably will ever, build as dangerous and terrifying of a surveillance apparatus as the nexus of #Ring #flock and #Palantir. And now it’s in the hands of the most dangerous regime since 1945. We saw this coming. And we couldn’t stop it. I don’t know what happens next, but this is very bad.
