The Clever Dripper is hands down my favorite coffee brewer and it's absolute peak in terms of both coffee quality and convenience. It's probably the easiest brewer to use and clean and it makes great coffee (provided you use good, fresh beans and a decent burr grinder). It's so good it's becoming the standard pour over method in many cafes because it's very consistent.
Definitely my recommendation if you want to upgrade your coffee brewing habits without diving too deep down the rabbit hole.

Let's talk about watch movements.
Many of you are likely aware that watches come in 2 basic variants: quartz and mechanical.
- Quartz watches use electricity (usually from a battery) to make a tiny quartz tuning fork vibrate really fast and create oscillating electric currents that can be used to keep track of time. They tend to be cheaper to produce.
- Mechanical watches use the energy stored in a spring to power a complex mechanism of gears which can only move in tiny increments at the frequency dictated by an oscillating wheel with a tiny spring in it. They're much more expensive to produce.
In either case time is kept thanks to an oscillator with a set frequency. For mechanical watches that frequency ranges from 3 to 5 Hz whereas for quartz watches it's usually 32,768 Hz or more. Because of this quartz watches are significantly more accurate, usually losing less than 1 second per day compared to mechanical watches which can lose up to 30 seconds per day.
Still, many people prefer mechanical watches and I can think of many very understandable reasons for that. Making them requires impressive craftsmanship, fully analogue, mechanical devices are super cool, they have a sweeping seconds hand that's satisfying to look at, they don't need to have batteries changed etc. Most people who own mechanical watches have them not for practical reasons but rather because they appreciate the craft of mechanical watchmaking and I fully get it.
BUT!!! There is a "but" and it's important for me to address for the benefit of future mechanical watch owners:
Some people invest in a mechanical watch, specifically an automatic one where the spring is wound through the movement of one's wrist, because they believe the watch is this perfect closed system that will keep going indefinitely since there's no need to change batteries. That it's a one time purchase that gets you a timepiece for life. This isn't the case. More in the follow up post.

@protocol7 We sell anything from super budget (Q&W, Lorus, Casio) to the lower edge of luxury (think Seiko/Bulova not Rolex/Omega) although our main brands are the various Casio brands and Atlantic. I'd say my fav brand is probably Casio although if I could afford it I'd probably be leaning more towards Seiko ^^'

And like, I'm AMAB. A relatively small AMAB but I went through normal male puberty and still ended up with wrists small enough that most "Men's" watches look ridiculously large on me. This just happens and a lot of thin and/or smaller men come in looking for watches. They'd totally benefit from being open to trying women's watches but they refuse to even look at them just because of the label. Similarly there are some really cool men's watch designs that are relatively small and could fit many women but they also refuse to try on these watches because they feel they're not for them.. it's sad.

Cis people are so weirdly hung up on gendering objects. Like pretty often a customer will show interest in a watch and then ask me if it's a men's or women's watch in a way that it almost feels like they're asking ME for permission to enjoy the watch. I typically default to saying that most watches are unisex but if the customer finds out what the intended demographic of a given model is it seriously affects their ultimate decision!!
And like that's so crazy! You like the watch, it's the right size for your wrist, you look good with it but you still choose not to buy it because some guy in Japan or Switzerland arbitrarily decided it's for women??? Men are allowed to wear smaller watches (tiiiiiny watches were the pinnacle of formal men's fashion historically) and women are allowed to wear larger watches. All that matters is that it isn't absurdly out of proportion relative to your wrist.

So I was looking for barefoot canvas sneakers to have some lightweight shoes for the summer. Somehow the single cheapest pair I could find was handmade in the EU, fully vegan and seemingly better made than Converse Chucks. And also made by a company that mainly produces children's shoes but has a small handful of models for adults. I'm in awe that this was THE cheapest option by a lot if we don't count dubious Chinese brands.

So I've seen quite a few videos of Americans experiencing culture shock after finding out that you're expected to take off your shoes immediately after entering a house in some Asian countries.

Do you mean to tell me that in the US you DON'T take off your shoes when you come into your house?? You just bring all that dirt in? Like it's so weird that this is constantly presented as an unusual quirk of Japanese or Korean culture but I'm pretty sure it's quite universal because most people don't want to constantly sweep/vacuum their floors and being barefoot or wearing slippers is more comfy indoors??

The first 2026 teas are starting to become available!! This is your reminder to find a reputable tea importer in your country/region so you can get your hands on some super fresh teas this season! (Good importers should list the harvest year of their teas especially when it comes to the freshest ones)
I've posted about it before but basically we've entered the so called "first flush" which is the time when tea plants begin their first growth spurt of the year. Leaves from the first flush are regarded as being more flavorful and complex than leaves from later growth periods and as such they're very highly valued.
Tea is generally the best when it's fresh but some tea types benefit from freshness more than others. If you're a tea enjoyer I recommend you try some of the following tea types when they're still at their freshest:
- Green teas - green tea is very prone to going stale and its taste tends to be the richest right after harvest. All high quality green teas will taste great when they're fresh but some specific kinds to keep an eye for would be Japanese Shincha, Chinese Long Jing and Hunagshan Maofeng. Those are some of my favorites anyway but there are lots of delicious greens from the first flush!
- White teas - fresh white tea just tastes like spring, what can I say? Even just a basic Pai Mu Tan is gonna be amazing this time of year.
- Light oolongs - lightly oxidized, flowery oolongs from China and Taiwan are incredible in the spring. I've had one that smelled exactly like lilac but only for the first month or two after harvest! Pretty much look for anything described as "flowery" and you probably won't be disappointed.
- "Black" teas from Darjeeling and Nepal Guranse - black tea usually stays fresh longer than other types but first flush teas from these 2 Himalayan regions are actually closer to light oolongs. They have a very unique flowery and hay-like flavor profile and are simply incredible when they're fresh!
