@UlrikeHahn I have recently read blog about a solar driven server. And the blogger showed that using black and white raster images instead of Jpeg was much smaller. All images as well as video stills could be replaced by these raster images, avoiding strong data traffic during scrolling, and only shown on demand. I think I'm actually not interrested in 90% of the images in my timeline

Aaaaahhhhhh ! One of my favourite papers, which is about the efficient use of water by plants, has just been cited in this sentence "[...] as stress-induced ﬂower or seed abortion is typically irreversible (Brendel, 2021[...]". There is zero information in my paper about flower or seed abortion. Such wrong citations are actually nearly more the rule than the exception now, but I get §&$%"&% every time : did they not read my paper ? Why cite it then ? Do they pick random papers, just for more citations ? Have they even read the title ?

#AcademicChatter Hello, fellow academic chatters. I'm an experimental scientist. And I regularly have the problem of how to organize acquired data by different participants to a same experiment. I'd like to have some feedback of how other people do this. Not necessarily specific computer programmes (such as digital labbooks), but rather how-tos based on robust, basic things, such as text and csv files, folder structures etc. I'm often battling with the workflow which is including handwritten measurements, their digital counterparts, metadata for the measurements, codes for samples, all of these done by different people, but all will have to end in one final dataset, where I would like to be able to trace data back to the paper files, and their metadata. And all of this with not too much additional effort by everybody ;-) Have done this usually with some shared server space, but usually it ends up as something a bit difficult to get through. I'm now rather thinking about a system involving perhaps something based on #MarkDown or even #RMarkdown or #knitr etc. Any feedback much welcome 😁

Yes, if we go for public reviews, valued in the CVs, then such a review should probably include some part where the reviewer presents his understanding of the objectives of the paper and puts the objectives as well as the results into an additional bibliographic context (which could be added to the MS as some kind of editorial), allowing thus the evaluation of the competence of the reviewer, as well as the value of the review

@nilsbuehler oh, vielen Dank. Obsidian ist ja eine tolle Sache. Ich hatte während meines ersten podcos einen lokalen Wiki auf Textfile basis genauso benutzt. Ich seh da eine Möglichkeit die txt files auf Markdown automatisch umzuschreiben und so auf Obsidian umzusteigen (>1000 files). Ich hin eh erstaunt dass mein Wikiserver von Windows NT noch auf 11 läuft:-)

So I wonder : how many active scientists (lets say having published one peer-reviewed paper in the last five years) are on mastodon from the different EU countries ?

I'm a plant physiologist doing #PlantScience, my discipline is forest tree #EcoPhysiology, which means studying how trees respond to their environment, for example how trees acclimate to #DroughtStress. @nicebread even though it seems good sense, I still have difficulties with this pre-registering experimental plans : at least in plant science, you are up to so many surprises, that you might have planned doing it one way, and ending up a different one.
