Basically Caesar was laying siege to the city, so the built the first wall to encircle the city. Then Gauls outside the walls started attacking them and trying to get supplies in, so they built a second set of walls to defend the Roman forces and prevent relief.
It’s not a perfect analogy, it was on the history memes community a couple days ago.

I’ve said some negative things about KDE Plasma feeling like three desktop oses taped together, but the latest version the fixed all that and it’s pretty good.
I still want to destroy all the hotksys and window decorations, but it just works, and it works well, and it works for edge cases where Gnome and Cosmic crash or fail silently.
KDE is pretty good, and I say that about a very small amount of software.

I can’t get over how revelations says the followers of the antichrist will wear a blasphemous name on their heads and the MAGA/Trump people don’t connect the dots to their Trump hats.
It’s like they’re playing a connect the dots but don’t know the numbers show the order to connect them. They just draw random lines until pareidolia kicks in.

It’s glaringly obvious that Israel is just there to sabotage every diplomatic avenue the US might take.
And the US is basically getting cuckolded as Israel gets everything it wants and the US just impotently watches and pays for it all.
There’s really no excuse for Israel to be doing this, and they also assassinated negotiators earlier. They really do not want any peace treaty or the US to pull out.

This study is crap.
No statistical significance, control groups, numbers, or models. Just rolling average temperature vs temperature.
They don’t say how they filter out trends or seasonality. They don’t look at switch point models or do difference in difference. And it’s a non reviewed preprint.
This research needs an actual statistician to use their data and fix it, because as is, this is not worth discussing.

Passkeys are okay, but your browser and OS want you to use them because you can’t just take a passkey to another platform, you have to create a new one, and it’s a pain in the ass.
It’s a lock-in gimmick latching on to a real useful solution.

I was joking, definitely don’t write them to install an editor that’s obsolete.
sed and grep (both inspired by ed) to do most of what ed does in a modern way, and ed was only useful over teletype when it was slow/expensive to render a scrollable field.
All modern TTYs support scroll regions, and with sed it just doesn’t make sense to use ed anymore.

I had some really good friends in high school who were home schooled for k-10, then they did high school like normal.
They were a little eccentric but had a really good foundation. They were in a home school group thing, so they also socialized and different parents would teach different subjects.
So it can be done outside the religious weirdo parents situation.
