@lichtenstein Oh every player absolutely gets their introduction scene, where they can show of their character to the party. I also encourage the use of "flashback panel" scenes, where they use a scene from their past to have impact on the now.
But I am also a big fan of the "rule of cool" always trumping "rules as written". I really detest "balancing" game rules that only seem to be there to curb players' enjoyment (D&D5 is really big with this, I hate it).
The diceless Marvel Universe RPG made big use of flashback panels and had a very coolness-oriented game flow. The "Leverage" rpg also had mechanisms for that and off-panel preparations by the characters that were played out in the moment they became relevant, as a flashback. It was quite nice.
My games are all somewhere between Saturday Morning action cartoons and over-the-top dramatic anime.
