Depending on the monastic order or Christian movement, some assume literal divine properties, others define a more mundane approach. Catholics in particular are between a "representative of god" and "just a normal person that has lots of wisdom and can guide you". Depending on which part of the bible you put your attention to. Thats why you have a lots of views, and there's no such thing as a unified Christianity.
