@Kierkegaanks @artemis I've read McNamara's writing on the part he played in that, but I take it with a large grain of salt. He was, after all, a master of self promotion. I think if Walter Sweeny had been more like Arthur Harris and stated the air force would guarantee they could take out all of the missiles, then things would have ended very differently.
