I've been talking about this mainly in terms of subcultures, but this happens to queer identities all the time. People half-jokingly refer to it as "cis+" when someone has kind of a gender crisis and start thinking about their gender identity and end up concluding that they are more or less their gender assigned at birth, but in a way that feels more intentional.
