@Metaph I've heard from editors that this is true about writing too, the easiest way to find out if a story is AI generated is to ask the author questions about character motivations or story decisions, there basically isn't a real author who isn't excited to talk your ear off about their characters and setting and why they wrote what they did.
Now, what you absolutely shouldn't do is try to sleuth out whether the artist is using AI on your own and then start accusing them on it based on a hunch. There's basically nothing more annoying than that.
I think the fundamental problem is that people are so used to seeing art decontextualized from the artist that it doesn't even occur to them to try an approach that is based on checking sources.
Like, a lot of the time, you don't even have to ask artists about their process, you just go to their blog or social media feed and you'll see them talk about it in great detail.
