The cardboard worked! But I left one glass for my wife to figure out. Made a slight mess as the thickness of the cardboard was not 0; paper would be thinner but I was afraid it would disintegrate.

I got her back, thanks to the water on the ceiling trick! H/T to @Jeffrey ! At the moment she is still holding the bowl on the ceiling, but the dog, who was basically howling at this abnormality in his life and jumping on her, has finally calmed down.
