@mayintoronto I use email, but not the way that people tell you to.

I create a blank email to nobody, which automatically saves a draft on my network server; then I can go into my "Drafts" folder wherever I happen to log in (phone, computer, wherever) and get to my notes.

But

I don't do this for big, long term projects usually. It works really well for home improvement projects (shit, that light bulb is out, that hinge is broken, etc) and especially for groceries, because I can note it the instant I know that I'm low on something and not have to leave the room.

For bigger projects I've been unable to find a consistent way to share between devices. I use ZimWiki on Linux and it works fantastically, but even though the files are all plaintext (ish), consistently sharing between devices is quite a pain (unless it's on a network share somewhere, in which case it's either open to the public or only available while you're at home).

This is a problem that I've chased a few times now, but honestly the "best" solution for me always seems to come back to a pocket notebook, a pen, and a lot of squinting while I try to remember what I scribbled and why.

For big projects that I do at home (yard stuff or building bookshelves or whatever) I just use a plain old legal pad to keep track of measurements and stuff. That's what I used to pack up my life when I moved all of my shit to France.
