@ticho I do make that distinction for sure, but since the context that we're talking about is the revisionist "lost cause" mythology that (among other things) works to sanitise the confederacy by downplaying the pro-slavery stance, that still leaves Mal embodying the romanticised "lost cause" confederate soldier, who is honour bound and has a heart of gold and actually had the moral high ground, etc.
