They shouldn't be making any money at all, because we shouldn't be allowing them to use AI to scam people and steal attribution. But that has nothing to do with the ethical nature of training sets. They're not doing anything to you. They're learning from you. It's their ability to deceive uhh "customers" that does the damage. You may be privileged enough not to have been hurt by the repression in the name of intellectual property, or you may have been hurt in ways you're not aware of, but it really does harm to all our creativity. I don't like having my brain programmed to only be able to imagine copyrighted content.
We can fight AI without getting in bed with the devil and turning on the people trying to save us. There are plenty of reasons to get rid of it that don't involve raising outrage that our publisher is not being given exclusive publishing rights by having the police attack other publishers.
