@lproven @theregister It had been about fifteen years for me and I felt much the same way. Compared to then, this time was a breeze. I did have some trouble on the first computer I installed it on (Framework 13) but it turns out that would be because it was overheating on compile, which caused segfaults. On my desktop with an actually adequate cooling system everything went just fine and I got everything I needed set up and going with minimal issues. What helps, I think, is that modern Gentoo is using sane defaults that have good general applicability without being too large or too limited. It means you can do much less USE flag tweaking for a good, stable, functional system.
