Simple age check for Linux:

Just have the shell ask the user to check the host IP on first boot.

If they type ifconfig they are old enough, if they type ip addr they deserve to be restricted from their computer 😇

Welcome (back) to Macintosh

My hope is that there are Mac lovers within Apple who bite their tongue at every silly icon redesign, title bar-shrinking design reorganization, misty shower window—re-skin—love letter that they are forced to enact instead of taking what was once (and partially still is) that rarest of jewels, a long-term, continuously updated, well-designed user interface and mass market operating system and iterating on it to make it better.

General Kurt von Hammerstein-Equord's classification of military officers:

«
I distinguish four types.

There are clever, hardworking, stupid, and lazy officers. Usually two characteristics are combined.

Some are clever and hardworking; their place is the General Staff.

The next ones are stupid and lazy; they make up 90 percent of every army and are suited to routine duties.

Anyone who is both clever and lazy is qualified for the highest leadership duties, because he possesses the mental clarity and strength of nerve necessary for difficult decisions.

One must beware of anyone who is both stupid and hardworking; he must not be entrusted with any responsibility because he will always only cause damage.

@codinghorror@infosec.exchange @cstross@wandering.shop @jhooper@techhub.social I can't and don't speak for Charlie or anyone, but my position is: * LLMs are not AI * LLMs are bad and 99% of bot slop is bad. Ecologically, for users, for consumers, in general, bad. * Taking publicly-available data to feed LLMs is bad Bots can make slop because they've been trained on stuff humans made. Companies running bots are making money off stuff they did not pay for. That is bad. Searching is OK. Searching connects creators to consumers. Remixing that and serving it instead is bad. Crawling for content is bad. This is not complicated or hard or even subtle. I do not understand your frantic requests for clarification. No, I have not watched your video. I hate video. I speedread. Is there text anywhere?

LLMs are a failure. A new AI winter is coming. https://taranis.ie/llms-are-a-failure-a-new-ai-winter-is-coming/ Though LLMs had a lot of promise, this has not been demonstrated in practice. The technology is essentially a failure, and a new AI winter is coming.
