Middle aged Progressive; I enjoy science and music - not in than order. I complain a lot. Hopium vendors need not apply, I'll only frustrate you. Alt-text for profile pic: me, a middle aged white hippy sporting a beard and top hat. I don't *look* irritating. Reply guy, drive-by poster. Don't worry, I'll agonize over my replies more than you will. Note: "Shut up" is less polite than "You can stop talking now", but both work. I do not consent to having my data scraped or bridged.

The less stuff you have, the easier it will be to travel. Probably 70% of my headache has been getting my shit organized and moved (including two dogs, of which I'm struggling with the first right now).
Travel paperwork is not generally "cheap", but it's not unachievable either (at least in the US) - I think it cost me around $200 total, but I was still working then so it didn't hurt so much.
All of this did take money, but it didn't require as much as I've spent on it. I have tried to be frugal, but I was also raised to be a capitalist and I couldn't justify getting rid of everything and having to buy everything new again.
There are no perfect solutions. For most of this process I was not thinking even three steps ahead...it was basically me repeating, "I'd rather die in France than in the United States" over and over again until I was able to make it happen.
