Probably one of the grayer characters around the interwebs. Been around for about half a century, been furry for around 35 years of that time. Grew up in a small town in western NY, but I've lived in a few different places around the east coast and mid west. Even Alaska for a little while. I'm into photography, digital and more recently getting back into film. writing, and a bit of a stationary nerd, but not too bad. I also like cars, and alternative transportation. So yes I zip around on an electric scooter, but don't worry, I still get a little shiver when I hear a nice V8. Computers, I'm an avid Linux and Mac user, and video gamer. There's more, and maybe I'll add to this later, till then, if you want to know, ask. :)

If you don't get it yet, this age verification that California is forcing into OS's (and Colorado is about to) isn't about protecting kids. It does nothing to protect kids.

But it is the first step towards needing your ID to use your computer, and tying your ID to everything you do with your computer.

In short, this is bad, and it's laying the ground work for mass surveillance the likes of which we haven't seen before.

And the thing that sucks is because they're using the "Think of the children" line, it'll probably go through without any resistance at all.

Make your plans now for how you want to respond to this, because its probably not a matter of if, but when this happens.
