I don't think I've ever wanted to spend money more in my life. I've wanted one of these since I was a kid, and never would I have imagined I could have a new one.
This is not an emulalted console, this is the original Neo Geo AES built with modern hardware and some nice QOL updates, like onboard HDMI.
And they have a set that comes with all 10 of the games that are currently going to be re-released when the console drops.
Yes, it's expensive. But if you know what this is, the current prices are an absolute STEAL compared to what these cost when they released the first time.
I'm going to get one for my sister, she's a huge gamer and she's going to lose her shit when I send one of these to her. :)

Something beautiful about typewriters to me, is that even though some of mine are heading towards 100 years old, they still work. And they're still totally capable of doing the thing that they were built to do all those years ago.
I can turn out a page of copy faster on a 100 year old typewriter than someone with a powerful modern computer and printer. Not because I'm anything special. My typing is slightly above average, but I'm not a speed queen like there used to be in the 30's and 40's. But because typewriters do what they do so well that they're just more efficient.
In the hands of a skilled typist, the typewriter is an incredible tool. And I'd argue still an indispensable part of any modern office, even today.

This is becoming more and more common, our government making midnight votes to push things through that they know are going to be massively unpopular with the public. In an attempt to avoid some of the inevitable backlash. If you're an American, and have friends abroad, (which most of us do) you're a potential target.

@janusfox Yeah, unfortunately that does happen in some places. There are spots here where I have to just ride on the side of the road because there is no alternative. Most people are good about this, but there's always that one jackass that thinks anything with less than 4 wheels doesn't belong on the road.
I still ride, but I'm very mindful of the assholes.

Over the last year and a quarter, I've been spending a lot more time getting around on my electric scooter than in a car, and I've honestly found a few interesting things.
First off, you just notice a lot more of what's around you when you're going 15-20 mph out in the open on a scooter than 35-45 mph with the windows up, the AC blasting and the radio on in a car. You see and hear a lot more. I've found more neat little places and just enjoyed getting around a lot more on 2 wheels than 4.
You also get a much better feel for an area when you're not in a car. You see the life around you, people going about their little daily things. It's less lonely. And you get more of the little human interactions that happen when you're doing things like waiting for a crosswalk light or just stopped here or there. That and a surprising number of people ask me about the scooter. How fast is it, how far can it go, etc. All interactions I'd never have if I were just driving around everywhere.
It's also cheaper. I've ridden over 1200mi in the time I've had my scooter, the total cost of doing that on my scooter has been virtually nothing compared to what it cost just to own a car for that same period of time, even if I never drove it anywhere.
Overall, I've really enjoyed my time as a rider since I got my scooter. Its been fun and even with needing to get a new tire I've saved a ton of money with not having to drive a car everywhere. Now I just hope our backward ass laws over here in the US don't make things like scooters and e-bikes illegal, or effectively useless. They're heading in that direction in some places and that sucks.

About 15 years or so ago I was looking for a car, and one of the places I looked was a Toyota dealership in Orlando. And while they didn't really have anything I could get there, while we were talking I noticed he had a small photo on his desk of a building, and across the bottom of the picture frame it said, "Tehran"
I asked him if he had been there, and he told me he was born there. He'd lived in Tehran, Iran for most of his life. I asked him what it was really like, mentioning all I'd ever seen of it is what we see on the news here. He told me about the city, and what it was like living there. Seemed to enjoy having someone to talk to about it that was genuinely interested in it.
He told me about a Tehran you never hear about on our news. Showed me pictures he had of a vibrant and interesting place. We never hear about what it's like to live in those places here, we only hear about them when someone's dropping bombs on them. It was really interesting hearing him tell little stories about it, and I think he was happy to talk to someone that was genuinely interested in where he was from.
At the end of it I asked him, "So why did you come here? (to the US)" He said he was trying to make more money so he and his family could live a better life. While he was here, his wife and child were still living in Tehran.
He couldn't sell me a car, but we still talked for something close to two hours. And I remember that to this day. It's one of the reasons I believe as i do that while our governments may do things that are vile, most people are just trying to live their lives, and to make tomorrow a little better than today.
I hope he managed to bring his family here, and that they're safe and doing well. I can't imagine what it must feel like to look on the news and see bombs falling on your home town. I wish we could all see one another as human beings and stop having to decide everything we do with bombs.

Imagine if we treated cars the way we're treating e-bikes in the US?
Okay, since a few of you have been speeding, and some people have died, Now every car is limited to a 4 cylinder engine with no more than 50hp, And all cars must be governed to no more than 35mph. We're also going to ban cars from any road where the speed limit is 25 or under.
That's literally what's going on right now with e-bikes. Laws are being written that are so restrictive and stupid in some places that they basically render e-bikes e-waste. And that's on purpose. The idea being to get people to stop riding them and to force them back into cars. Because that's all our lawmakers care at all about here.
It's so backwards it drives me nuts!

@Laberpferd Ah gotcha. Yeah, that's the truth. Thing is I honestly don't know if we'll be able to stop it here. They couldn't in the UK either. And while I hope things like this could be stopped in other places, I don't know that either. I've always looked at the EU to do better on this than we have, but I hear they're gearing up for something similar there as well.

@wyatt It honestly wouldn't surprise me if they did something more rash like just blanket ban Linux if they can't find a way to force this on it. (or doing a bunch of really stupid things in the attempt anyway). So we all might end up being criminals in their eyes at some point.

@burnoutqueen That won't save you though, these laws as they're written expressly mean that this is supposed to apply to Linux as well.
So one of two things will probably happen, either Linux distros will start complying with this law, especially as it spreads to more places. Or areas that implement this law will start just blanket banning Linux.
Or at least make attempts to do so. Which who knows what that will end up meaning they do. They might make it mandatory that OS's require identifiers attached to your ID that show you're a Windows / mac user or something stupid like that. Once they realize that LInux is kind of ungovernable.

If you don't get it yet, this age verification that California is forcing into OS's (and Colorado is about to) isn't about protecting kids. It does nothing to protect kids.
But it is the first step towards needing your ID to use your computer, and tying your ID to everything you do with your computer.
In short, this is bad, and it's laying the ground work for mass surveillance the likes of which we haven't seen before.
And the thing that sucks is because they're using the "Think of the children" line, it'll probably go through without any resistance at all.
Make your plans now for how you want to respond to this, because its probably not a matter of if, but when this happens.
