I had this impression as well, until I had to troubleshoot some problems I was having with the screen. Did not give it root access, but it run a bunch of analysis on the system and within a few minutes it was spitting out configuration files that I just had to copy in the correct directories.
Doing the same myself would have taken me a day on the arch wiki.
I've been using Linux for years, when I was on X I was editing the Xorg.conf without looking up the documentation. If you know exactly what the problem is, you'll fix it faster that way.
However, if you don't troubleshoot many systems often it is unlikely that you have a structured approach to identifying the problem. LLMs can be quite organised in doing that.

The article discussed in depth how bad technical decisions made Microsoft product bad quality and unreliable. They they propose that this is the reason why Microsoft lost potential contracts with openai.

Sure, proper language is appropriate for certain situations.
Some of those situations call for swearing.
Some people swear a lot, it is not a problem to me.

Lemmy is not a good source of information. But it is a decent place to talk about stuff and laugh it off with memes.

Didn’t read the article yet.
I have a good friend who is homeless and begs for money. He says his life is much better than the life of the richest people of just a few centuries ago.

Yes, I’m tired of all this distro thing. Let’s stop giving distro advice to new users. Tell them to just pick any as it doesn’t influence their experience in the slightest.

I mean, Arch is a pretty nice place to start for someone who is interested in understanding how the system works and to get a glimpse of what is system administration.
But if that is not the objective, and the person just wants to use the pc normally, then I guess any other distribution will be fine.
At this point I feel there really is no point to all these different distributions.
When Ubuntu came out it was the great new thing simple to use and friendly to new users. When Mint came out it was the brand new Ubuntu even better than before.
But at this point… Pretty much any distribution is usable, do we really need so many?
There’s some 5 arch based that came out past year, God knows how many Debian based and so on. I feel this has become futile.
Just pick any distribution, it will be fine:
arch may break a bit more often than the other ones, provided you can set it up; pick any derivative if you don’t want to spend time setting it up.
Debian may have packages that are a bit outdated, pick any derivative if you want a bit newer packages.
Fedora will be in between.
Suse will also be in between.
That’s pretty much it: do you want something extremely stable? Debian. Do you want the latest update few hours after they’ve been pushed by dev? Arch. None of these constraints? Literally any other distribution.

Wait, what is the reason for writing the name of an animal on top of animal images when asking for a man made object?
Wouldn’t it make more sense to mix animal images with images of man made objects with text of animal names on top to trick LLMs?

I mean, nano is cool I guess.
But just today my colleague asked what parameter add to a configuration file. He asked me should it be before or after this line? I told him before, he added it after.
He had to select the line with the mouse, copy the text, go above, paste it, go back and delete the line character by character.
I mean, not too bad; but I was feeling very bad while seeing it happen.

Who the fuck wrote such a terrible article? What is described is not a problem with AI per se, but rather automation and poor security. AI may be part of that automation system, but this is a trend which started with the dot com bubble and not something new.
Besides, the models they reference to check plant diseases and so on are most definitely not the LLMs which have now become synonyms of AI.
Sure, a cyber attack can lock down your production; but it is mostly not AI who generated this problem. It may intensify the problem, but as of now we don’t have many examples in which that happened.

Red Hay has helped a lot the Linux system, I doubt desktop systems would be a good viable idea by now without their contribution.
Does your analogy imply that you think Red Hat made systemd to eventually break it and thus make Linux not viable? I doubt they could do that without losing all their customers.
I mean, systemd can indeed do a lot of things but it mostly is used for startup and service management. And I prefer systems services to a cronjob.

Came from Italy and to be fair I didn't try too much American food, I guess some corn meal and pancakes, meat was really good; but the real greatest thing I found in the US is the HUGE sandwiches they make in the Publix supermarket. Great stuff, loved it.

Raising price of water or increasing prices when supply is low is not something I'd see working in real world.
Pretty sure if it did that I'd just smash the machine and advise the company to replace it with a normal one.

What, the paragraph symbol? I'll add that to the list of useless words to pull out in strange situations just to show off to people I know them.

I would not use latex for any document that should be a template for other people to fill in. Unless you're a peer reviewed journal.
I wouldn't use latex for anything that requires precise positioning of images and elements. InDesign and similar are a much better option.
I do like to use markdown for any document that does not fall into those categories.
I like to use latex for any document I'm writing which I want someone else to style.
Latex is very cool for styling, but in my experience most of the time you do not really need that amount of configurability and the added time to correctly make a styled document in latex is way more than what it would take you in word, even when you have to fight word to make it. That is unless you need equations, but then again: just write markdown with latex equations.

When I have to work on docx I generally can do it with LibreOffice and I'm quite happy with that.
Sometimes I can not, I had for example this pesky thing which wouldn't let me edit parts of the document as it was locked, especially on tables. No amount of conversations across file formats fixes that for some reason.
That is when I have to open up the office365 webpage. What a fucking piece of garbage. Most things you mention do not even exist in there. You can write a document and add comments, managing styles is already a bit too much for the yearly fee they charge you.
I hope they make it possible again to install the office suite on Linux.
And in no way I'm saying I like LibreOffice better than word, they're both quite terrible; but at least one of them runs on my system.
