Raphus is one of thousands of servers that make up the wonderfully weird Fediverse :fediverse:, and like most, we are a very small server with only about 50 monthly active users.
Our goal for 2026 is $1200 USD. So far we have raised $122. That means we’ve raised 10% of our goal in the first 10% of the year, that’s pretty neat!

We are going to be doing some system maintenance this morning. So there may be some brief downtime while we are applying some system updates.

Back in 2022, when I first launched Raphus Social, it was placed behind Cloudflare for its DDoS protections, but not behind fully aware of their problematic history and also because every other option was aimed at enterprise customers, and cost prohibitive. However, over the past year, I have been building and testing our own global CDN using a series of globally distributed servers (3 currently), each with its own DDoS protection, running an nginx caching proxy, geo-locating dns, and connecting back to our primary location via a private WireGuard network. Yesterday’s cloudflare outage finally prompted me to “flip the switch” and move Raphus onto our own CDN that I’ve been building and testing. So far everything appears to be working perfectly 🎉.
I’ve also added the status of our CDN locations to https://status.raphus.social

This morning at approximately 0700 PDT (1400 UTC) our fiber uplink went down. After some stressful troubleshooting, a hardware fault with our primary router was discovered. The equipment was replaced and all services were restored as of 0845 PDT (1545 UTC). Sorry for the inconvenience.

This morning, the Mastodon project released version 4.4.0, so we promptly upgraded Raphus Social. :mastodondance:
