Who needs a fancy PlayStation or XBox when you can play Kill The Bit on your #RC2014 Orton 3C instead. All 28 bytes were toggled in by hand.

@rc2014@oldbytes.space at the moment it’s a Raspberry Pi Pico 2 via DuPont cables to a breadboard. It’s currently just spying on the data bus, decoding what it sees to hexadecimal, and showing it on a small OLED screen.

I’ve been using a Raspberry Pi Pico 2 to spy on my #RC2014 Orton 3C’s data bus. At the moment this just displays the hex value it can currently see. This means I can make sure the values I’ve toggled in are correct without having to mentally convert from binary.

@rc2014@oldbytes.space It does help, thank you. I was just making sure I was fitting it correctly. It looks like there is enough room in the box for a Backplace 8 along with the 3C-PO shim if I swap out the Backplane 5. Would you agree?

@rc2014@oldbytes.space do you have any pictures of how you mounted the Orton 3C in the blue box? Do you leave the back panel open? Is power only via the FTDI as the barrel socket looks to be unaccessible?

@Monraet@mastodon.social have you got anything working on your Orton 3C? It took me a few attempts to get the hang of the programming via the toggles.

My #RC2014 Orton 3C computer is up and running.

This is a really low level Z80 computer that you program in binary using the switches on the right side of the panel.

In this example I’m callling some code in ROM to rotate the value on the left hand switches and display it on the LEDs.

Lovely trip up to Beachy Head, and then a scenic walk back down to Eastbourne.

Testing out my #RC2014 Orton 3C Digital IO module on my #RC2014 Picasso.

The power light is blinding, so I may need to swap the resistor for a bigger value like the numbered LEDs.

Apart from that, it’s all looking good for both input and output.

@diyelectromusic@mastodon.social @rc2014@oldbytes.space @shieladixon@oldbytes.space if it helps, this is what I use on my Mac when for building and running assembly language programs on my RC2014. The RC2014 must be running SCM for this to work. www.robertprice.co.uk/robblog/rc2024-part-13-my-rc2014-mac-development-environment/
