Es war eine unglaubliche Ehre gestern im Namen von @sucho die Karl-Preusker-Medaille für Verdienste im Bibliotheks- und Informationswesen entgegennehmen zu dürfen. Der Preis ehrt die über 1.500 Freiwilligen, die sich seit 2022 unermüdlich für die Bewahrung digitalen ukrainischen Kulturguts eingesetzt haben. Besonders berührt uns die gemeinsame Ehrung mit unseren Kollegen vom Ukrainischen Bibliotheksverband die tagtäglich für den Schutz der ukrainischen Kultur kämpfen.

@juh @datarescueproject.org Yes, we aim to use European servers as our primary hosting. We don't plan to host the data permanently, rather we see our role as a data lifeboat which can salvage data and make it accessible until it finds a safe haven, i.e. institutional long-term repositories or distributed storage, as provided by @SafeguardingResearch with https://sciop.net However, even our temporary storage needs are in the Petabyte range. Could you help us with that?

In 2017 the entire Flickr.com photo archive was almost deleted by its owner Verizon. The @flickrfdn is working heroically to preserve these photos for the next 100 years. They have developed a toolkit called Data Lifeboat which allows anyone to create a Flickr timecapsule. #Europeana2025

Die US-Regierung zensiert Fotos von Minderheiten auf ihren Websites. Im März wurde @AssociatedPress eine Liste von 26.000 Fotos zugespielt, die von Websites des Pentagons aus ideologischen Gründen entfernt werden sollten. Ich habe 500 dieser Fotos mit der Wayback Machine des @internetarchive retten können. Klimadaten sind durch die Datensäuberungen der Trump Regierung mit am meisten gefährdet. Die Freiwilligen von EDGI, einer Partnerinititiave von @datarescueproject.org, sichern schon seit 2016 wichtige Klimadaten, damit Wissenschaftler:innen weltweit weiterforschen können. Trumps Regierung löscht jeden Tag große Mengen an öffentlichen Daten, die Wissenschaftler:innen für ihre Forschung benötigen. Diese Datensäuberungen sind das digitale Äquivalent zu Bücherverbrennungen. Beim „Data Rescue Project“ engagieren sich Freiwillige aus aller Welt, um diese gefährdeten Daten zu sichern.
