Reading through Anthropic's official repo for giving agents various "super skills"[1]... There's an "algorithmic art" skill and the instructions are explicitly encouraging pure deception as one of the key "critical guidelines":

"The philosophy MUST stress multiple times that the final algorithm should appear as though it took countless hours to develop, was refined with care, and comes from someone at the absolute top of their field. This framing is essential - repeat phrases like "meticulously crafted algorithm," "the product of deep computational expertise," "painstaking optimization," "master-level implementation.""

https://github.com/anthropics/skills/blob/main/skills/algorithmic-art/SKILL.md

For someone who's been working in this field for almost 30 years, this "skills.md" file is just the worst... and so far off the mark! 🤮

Touch some effing grass, Anthropic (and all boosters)! How can so many people think this approach is _the_ future? The map is not the terrain...

[1] Alone the premise of this repo is pure comedy gold and pure sadness in equal measures!

Today marks 19 years since the very first _public_ commit of my old #Toxiclibs code library collection, which for many years were one of the largest and most important side-projects related to Java & Processing.org.

Altogether, toxiclibs consisted of ~360 different "building blocks for computational design" and was used as teaching tool in related fields in many universities, mostly in conjunction with Processing, but also without...

The libraries covered 2D/3D geometry with dozens of shape types/conversions, procedural voxel modeling tools, meshes, NURBs, math utilities, linear algebra, color theory/modes/conversion, data visualization algorithms, waveform generators, filters, spatial audio, 2D/3D physics simulations, agents (before they were cool!), 1D/2D/3D cellular automata, reaction diffusion, diffusion-limited agreggation and a lot more...

Below are links to two community showreels I produced back in 2009/10, showing a selection of works done by dozens of other artists, designers, architects, students etc.

2009 showreel:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9ifgR_7XqU

2010 showreel:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrdevgQ2VKA

Even though I fully stopped using Java back around 2013 (after 17 years of it being my primary proglang), these libraries are still being used now and over the past decade I've been working on, expanding on and going deeper into these same topics (and more) in other languages (Clojure/ClojureScript, TypeScript, Zig, C)...

Happy coding! :)

RE: https://mastodon.social/@andrewnez/116108709896510035 "When a whale dies in the open ocean, its carcass sinks to the abyssal floor and becomes an ecosystem. Marine biologists call this a whale fall, and the body sustains life in three overlapping stages: mobile scavengers strip the soft tissue over months, enrichment opportunists colonise the bones and surrounding sediment for years, and chemosynthetic bacteria feed on the skeleton itself for decades, converting the lipids stored in bone into energy that supports entire communities of specialised organisms. A single whale fall can sustain life on an otherwise barren ocean floor for fifty years."

Looking for other people here who're interested in analog "alt process" photography (especially Kallitype & salt prints in general) and who are also making their own prints. There used to be a few more such people in my TL, but they all seem to have vanished or stopped posting in the past year, and generally it feels there's precious little interest in this topic on Mastodon... (I too have a feeling, either my own photography went drastically downhill over the past 3-4 months or people in my circles are just less and less interested in it, or maybe don't get to see it all... Hello self-doubt! 😩) Anyhow, if you are interested in these topics, please like or boost so I can follow back! Much appreciated! It's very hard to find peers in such niche topics whilst on a tiny single user instance... Ps. Also, if not Mastodon, any other communities/forums you might be able to recommend? #Photography #AltProcess #BlackAndWhite #SaltPrint #PlatinumPrint #GoldPrint #Kallitype #Darkroom #PLPT
