Secondo il comando militare statunitense lo schianto sarebbe avvenuto dopo un incidente tra due velivoli nello stesso spazio aereo, uno dei quali è riuscito ad atterrare mentre l’altro, ossia il KC-135, si è schiantato rovinosamente al suolo.
