My husband says he's not worried about online privacy, as it's an illusion already. But I've kept my post settings as "quiet public" since I got here, and I'm basically invisible. I do have some followers, mostly gleaned from my comments on others' posts or from people I found/follow who returned the courtesy (or curiosity); it's still pretty damned quiet. I post: not a ripple, not a drop. The pond is like glass. Maybe it's me.
I've toyed with switching to public by default, but lose my nerve when I read the definition. After fading away from Facebook in the time of Trump, do I really want to be visible to anyone/everyone on the Internet? Is it even a legitimate worry? I know that the few public posts I've ventured have brought follow requests from those accounts with no profile, and no posts; even as a newbie I know who those guys are (and yes they are, mostly).
Anyone know anything about bonfire?

Earlier this afternoon, Dear Hubby was frantically searching for his training kit bag. I was away last week, and came back to a certain amount of what I call "man-splaying" - miscellaneous crap spread out on every flat surface in sight. Also came back with a terrible cold and a head full of mud. So I had done some vague, unfocused straightening a few days ago, and I had a hazy memory of seeing the bag somewhere it ought not to be, moving it, and thinking I'd found a diabolical hiding place, serve his lazy ass right!
I still have the cold, and the memory of what was possibly the bag in question is even hazier now, so after I realize what he's been searching for a while I feel a bit guilty but can't for the life of me remember what I did with the damn bag. He's getting frantic and mad, especially after I confess that I might have moved it. We're both tearing the house apart. He did get to fuming and threatening murder; I suggested that was extreme, given that I hadn't killed him for taking my car keys OUT OF THE PLACE THEY BELONG for no reason at all last year when I was away and losing them forever ($300 to replace!).
We had searched everywhere, every closet, chest, basement bin... twice. Then I looked around the back of the couch, where the stationary bike sits, next to a table. There's a nice little visible, out-of-the-way nook with a green kit bag in it! And I realized why I'd thought it was so diabolical.
Serves his lazy ass right, all right. Now let's talk about cutting off my nose to spite my face...

Sorry, I'm making a nuisance of myself over here. I caught a cold from the grandsons...sick as a dog now (wait, do dogs even GET sinus infections? Maybe I'd be better off as a dog.. ) and have no appetite cuz no sense of smell, stomach's upset (it's pretty empty, and also, drowning in phlegm), falling behind on my water consumption and getting dehydrated, meanwhile my empty stomach is gurgling and bubbling like Yellowstone so I can't even nap well!
"Carry on" I say, to everyone and no one, my ever-quiet public. Chocolate ice cream seems to have soothed the growl beast and I might just get a little rest!

@leeloo @skedarwarrior @cstross I find this a really interesting explanation/analysis, partly because - and this will probably get me attacked - it both helps me understand the concept of gender dysphoria, and nudges at my discomfort with pronouns. I grew up a "tomboy" and rebuilt my first car engine at 16. Also developed lifelong bad posture because as I matured physically, I hated being objectified and having my chest stared at. I don't really understand women, and they don't understand me, mostly. I've been in neutral or typically male professions my whole life. I'm definitely female, have a husband and 2 kids, but I'm also definitely NOT "female" in most of the ways society understands - yet have never been tempted to call myself "they." It shouldn't need to be argued that all of us contain multitudes. Gender, and sexual/relationship preferences, are only some of many ranges of human experience where dysphoria can be experienced, and maybe we don't need to classify every phase, especially in ways that divide populations (if you are "them," are you disempowered or sidelined in the fight for women's rights, or men's?) Because what really matters is that we're all human, and what we do with our bodies and our relationships should be nobody else's business, and we should all be standing up for ALL humans' rights. Please don't shoot me ...
