Even worse, the test can have the same bug as the code.

Especially risky with dates, because the usual causes of date bugs - leap years and daylight savings time - happen at the same time for the code and the test, so an off by one (day or hour) bug is likely to not get caught.

Imagine how UK politicians must feel, working so hard for this, knowing they could have had it all 80+ years ago, if the UK had just surrendered.

I'm sure they have updated their terms. But only the kind of terms they just send out, I don't recall ever having to sign them.

Maybe because I only have the most basic account type, the kind that everyone is required to have, so they can't refuse even if people don't sign. Or maybe because they believe that they are a bank and thus above the law, they can just make their own rules, no contract needed. Probably a bit of both.

When I use my card, the money is reserved in my bank account. It's a separate line item until the transaction clears, but the reserved money is still money that I can't spend, because even though it may technically still be in my account, I already spent it.

On second thought, my parents may not have signed anything either. I do remember my brother was gifted an account with 100 DKK (~12 EUR) back in the day by a different bank (yes, that was a thing back then, no signatures, id or anything), and they let the account go negative. In the end, the bank had to swallow that debt, because they didn't have any legal basis for demanding that he pay.

Telling me what terms I signed... How very American of you.

The thing is, I didn't. I don't know what terms my parents signed when they opened my account when I was a child back in the early 1980'es or late 1970'es (I have had my account as long ss I can remember), but it definitely didn't involve any form of credit card, because that disn't exist here, and credit for children wouldn't be legal in the first place.

And I never bothered getting a more adult contract, because an account that does not allow spending money I don't have is what I prefer anyway.

My bank just decided that the paper "bank book" I used to have was too old fashioned, and replaced it first with a bank card with a mag stripe, and when that wasn't secure enough, with a debit card.

That is not a thing I have ever consented to, and allowing that would make my bank guilty of fraud.

Also, if it were the case, what would be the point of making me wait for the check whether there is money in my account before allowing me to fuel my car?

No, I expect my bank to uphold their end of the contract.

The modern way of customers having to jump through hoops because the people with too much money are above the law is not acceptable.

It works for debit cards? How?

The one reason that I have accepted having a debit card is the absolute guarantee that it cannot be used to spend money I don't have. Otherwise, that's a credit card, and I will not accept a credit card contract.

Without access to my bank, how does this guarantee work?

Is it, though?

The CEO uses an LLM to send out an email, which the project manager then uses an LLM to summarize.

Likewise, I suspect the people using AI to generate pull requests expect you to merge it without reading it. It's not like they care enough about the feedback, they just feed it back into the AI.

I thought as much, but thought it would be better to clarify before someone else doesn't get the joke.

Besides, you aren't exactly wrong either, there isn't infinite room on the ISS, even though it's a lot larger than the launch vehicle.

When talking about two factor authentication, I never use the official terminology. I call them passwords and hardware devices.

I've seen implementations where "something you have" was a piece of paper with passwords written on it. That is not an extra layer of security, that's five seconds extra at the photo copier when the thief is copying the piece of paper with the regular password.

And "something you know" still makes people think that a password should not be written down. Sure, that's how it used to be when people had one six-character password and a four-digit pin. But these days passwords are 12-20 characters, and people have 17 passwords for social media alone, plus every online store, forum, and sometimes even download sites, that's hundreds of random strings.

There are no alternatives to writing passwords down (paper vs password manager has good arguments for either), and writing down passwords does not make them something you have.

As for biometrics, I'm not convinced that was ever a good idea. There are way too many problems, some of them with no way to solve. So I tend not to suggest that at all.

Shoot you? There's nothing in your post I have even a slight problem with.

You may want to look into the non-binary community. It includes huge variations, e.g. "non-binary woman". And even if you decide not to consider yourself a part of that community, you might still find information of value to you. I would say you have some non-binary traits, but it's up to you whether those traits are enough to consider yourself non-binary. Not every non-binary person goes by "they".

Oh, one more thing. What you call "unsettling" may just be a glimpse into what we call dysphoria.

You hear about transition, and imagine wanting to live in the wrong body. But that's the thing - we already live in the wrong body. To us, transition is fixing the problem.

If you were to transition, you would get dysphoria. We were born with dysphoria and transition to make it go away. That's why it's unsettling to you. Because you imagine transition as changing away from the body that matches your soul, rather than changing it back to match your soul after some freak accident that made it grow the wrong parts.

You find it unsettling because you have it backwards. Nobody wants to be trans.

You list yourself as christian, so I'll use the word "soul", where I would otherwise use other terminology, because that might work better in your world view.

A class mate of mine had a sister who was born with six fingers on each hand. She had surgery to remove the extra fingers, likely before she even remembers. That's just how nature works. Sometimes people grow body parts that are not meant to be there.

Now let's imagine a god-given perfect soul. A female soul. Unfortunately, there is an imperfection in how her body grows. Just like my classmate's sister grew a couple of extra fingers, this poor girl grows a penis.

Why shouldn't we fix that the same way they did with my classmate's sister's extra fingers?

But instead, bigots insist that when it comes to genitals (their favorite subject), nature must be obeyed, and the god-given soul must be tortured into conforming to a freak accident of nature.

Does this help understanding how the world looks from our side? To make it less unsettling?

I wouldn't pick Debian when I feel RedHat is going the wrong way. Look at how quickly they followed with Systemd.

I've started adding the attachments first.

The recipient goes in last, so I don't accidentally hit send while typing the email (that last part came from using touch screens).

Pretty large fraction - around here that's fifth or sixth grade math.

- and kids don't get to drop out after fourth grade to help on the farm like they did ¾ of a century ago.

Why are open source people still using Micosoft® Github®?

And why are they still praying that Darth Vader doesn't alter the deal further instead of leaving years ago?

Exactly like Putinds attacks on Ukraine.

You can't support one without the other seeing you on his side.

It seems there are a lot of autistic people on Mastodon. And autistic people like trains, right? Yet I don't find a lot of train-related content on the Fediverse.

In an attempt to change that, I have made a railfan Pixelfed account @railfan where I post pictures of trains and infrastructure, mostly from southern Denmark (living near the border, there will be German trains as well).

You can follow Pixelfed accounts from Mastodon, you don't need another account. However, Mastodon only shows the first four pictures, so for large post you may need to select open in browser to see more pictures.
