@leeloo Umm, I'm Dutch, never even been to the Americas. But reading what you sign for is pretty standard all over the world, I would hope?

And I can't believe your bank has never updated its terms since the 80s.

@leeloo 1. No, a safety feature so people are not cut off from their own money. 2. If your bank does this (I only know about the banking system in the Netherlands and surrounding countries), it's in your contract or one of the underlying terms and conditions you signed for, so it's you who failed to do your due diligence. 3. You should check how long a card transaction takes to clear, because it's usually at least one business day and you are in debt until it clears, technically.

@leeloo Probably the same way ATMs (at least in Europe) have worked for years now. If the connection to your bank is down, you can still take out money at an ATM. When the connection is back up, the money is deducted, whether there is enough in your account or not. You pay no interest, the charge is dated to the correct day.

@ShadSterling @blinry With debuginfod it's not even necessary to install the debug symbols anymore on most major Linux distributions, gdb or whatever program needs them can just download them on demand. At least Fedora also automatically downloads the matching source file. See https://sourceware.org/elfutils/Debuginfod.html
