🇮🇪 Ireland’s National #Transport Authority has launched an inclusivity campaign to promote #diversity across the Transport for #Ireland (TFI) public transport network. Building on previous anti-racism initiatives, the campaign presents public transport as a welcoming space for all passengers, regardless of background, identity or ability. Advertisements will appear on #buses, trams and #trains, as well as on social media, sharing the experiences of people who use public transport each day. Using the tagline “Transport for Ireland is Transport for you, transport for everyone”, the campaign highlights the role of public transport in connecting communities. NTA chief executive Anne Shaw said accessible and inclusive transport is a key priority, noting it provides essential access to education, employment and independence. She added that improving transport options can help remove barriers and support inclusion across society. The campaign will run for several weeks. https://www.transportforireland.ie/news/national-transport-authority-launches-inclusivity-campaign-to-promote-diversity-on-tfi-public-transport-network/

Photo taken a few minutes ago at Málaga María Zambrano station. Normally I would be pleased to get such a variety of trains into a single photo. But not today. Malaga remains cut off from the rest of the Spanish high-speed network by a landslide near Álora, with no immediate prospect of a restored service. So of all these trains, only the diesel railcar furthest from the camera can go anywhere. For the rest, the station is just a place to park. /ctd #trains #TrainTravel

🚄🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 #ScotRail has begun seeking finance for a new suburban fleet of at least 69 trains, with options for up to 37 more, ahead of their planned introduction in the early 2030s. The operator will enter a rolling stock lease once the #trains are in service. A separate process to appoint a manufacturer was launched last November. The trains are expected to serve routes including East #Kilbride, Fife, the Borders and Glasgow’s inner suburban lines. Planned features include air-conditioning, improved reliability, step-free access, and more space for bicycles and wheelchairs. The #Scottish Government has approved the procurement, which is being aligned with electrification works by Network Rail. Chief Operating Officer David Ross said the investment would make rail travel more reliable, comfortable and attractive than car use. https://www.scotrail.co.uk/about-scotrail/news/scotrail-launches-finance-procurement-phase-new-trains-0

🚂 #Railway veteran Alan Newman, 79, returned to the footplate of the historic Flying #Scotsman in #Birmingham, 40 years after driving it on London-Stratford specials in the 1980s. Alan, a Duty Control Manager at Chiltern Railways, spent Friday 20 February assisting visitors at Birmingham Moor Street as families flocked to see the locomotive. Having worked in rail since 1962, his roles have included train driver, instructor, station manager and operational manager. Flying Scotsman was on display at the station for three days, operated by #Vintage #Trains. https://press.chilternrailways.co.uk/news/railway-veteran-of-64-years-returns-to-flying-scotsman-footplate

Amtrak lags in maintenance & updates to its inventory. When a rail car needs service, it gets mothballed & trains get shorter. Not enough cars are in service to meet demand. They have funding but are moving slow. High Speed Rail Alliance has an easy web form to write Transportation Secretary Duffy to request they expedite orders. https://www.hsrail.org/blog/ask-sec-duffy-to-expedite-superliner-replacement/ #amtrak #rail #trains #TakeAction #WriteYourRep #boost #HighSpeedRailAlliance #HighSpeedRail #TrainTravel #uspol

A farewell rail tour celebrating 50-year-old Mark III trains has raised £20,000 for charity. #Chiltern #Railways and the Branch Line Society organised the sold-out journey on 22 February between #London Marylebone and the West Midlands, marking the impending withdrawal of the operator’s Mark III fleet at the end of March. Around 250 enthusiasts travelled on the special service, with many more gathering at stations along the route. Some visitors were invited into the driver’s cab at Banbury before departure. Proceeds from the tour were donated to #Railway Children, which supports vulnerable young people in the #UK, Tanzania and India. The Mark III coaches, in service with Chiltern since 2010, are being replaced by the operator’s new Mark 5A ‘Chiltern Explorer’ #trains. https://press.chilternrailways.co.uk/news/farewell-tour-for-50-year-old-trains-raises-gbp-20-000-for-charity

Im excited to try out the new Siemens (SCV-42) train sets this summer on the Corridor, I've booked early enough, and with a discount that I could swing business class which I've never ever done in my entire life for anything. Looking forward to spending Canada Day in the capital this summer, it's a bucket list item. 🍁🤩 Last time I took a train on a Corridor it was the rather aged and well loved LRC cars, while comfortable they certainly looked their age. I do not want to try out the Siemens sets in the Winter until they've sorted their cold weather issues out 🙄. #trains #via #canada

Have just arrived in that Sydney, once again via the XPT sleeper train. And once again it was very late, 2hr 15 min this time. Have to give them points for originality though, I've heard all the reasons but this was a new one: apparently something in the front power engine failed so the train couldn't signal to drivers at level crossings, and thus they had to go very verrrrry slow. Novel. Anyway Sydney I am back. :) (Attending the annual IMM travel trade conference on Thursday & Friday.) #sydney #train #trains #melbourne

✈️ 🚂 🚗 Planes, Trains and Automobiles (and a cable car!) 🚡 Old cars taken for one last drive and dumped in forests. Cable cars left in silent stations. Soviet-era planes, once gate guardians to old air bases, now just an out-of-place curiosity. Huge rusting steam trains languishing in old collapsing depots. https://www.obsidianurbexphotography.com/portfolio/abandoned-places/rusting-transport/ #Photography #Transport #History #Photography #Abandoned #Rust #Relic #Urbex #UrbanExploration #Trains

The Mayor and council leaders have unveiled a new #Transport Vision for the West of #England, aiming to create a reliable, integrated network to support the region’s growing #economy. The plan prioritises better buses, more #trains, a new mass #transit system, improved walking and cycling routes, and upgraded streets and travel hubs. The West is the largest city-region without mass transit, and leaders aim to begin building within four to five years. Backed by £752 million in funding, more than 250 new low-emission buses, new rail stations and expanded active #travel schemes are under way. The vision links transport investment to jobs, productivity and housing growth, with further strategies and public consultation on #buses to follow. https://www.westofengland-ca.gov.uk/news/a-transport-network-you-can-trust-the-wests-new-transport-vision/

#Transport #UK has marked the end of its stewardship of West Midlands #Trains ahead of the transfer to public ownership at 02:00 on 1 February. The transition follows months of joint work and includes the transfer of more than 3,400 employees and 14 train fleets. During its tenure, Transport UK operated West Midlands Railway and #London Northwestern Railway, serving 150 stations and employing 3,400 people. Around £1 billion was invested in the regional rail network, including £700 million in new and refurbished trains. In 2024/25, the network carried 67.7 million passenger journeys, with demand expected to rise above 80 million in 2025/26. Key achievements included station upgrades, investment at Bletchley depot, the reopening of University station, new train fleets, improved arrival performance and recognition as the London and South East’s Most Improved Operator for a third year running. https://www.transport-uk.com/latest/tukwmtpublic
