🇳🇿 Global mass #transit operator Kinetic has secured all four contract units in #Auckland Transport’s Tranche 3 bus services tender, worth NZD755 million, marking its largest contract in Auckland. Three central units will run for 11 years and the eastern unit for 8.6 years. Kinetic will invest more than NZD121 million in new zero-emission buses and depot upgrades, including expanded charging infrastructure and a second overhead gantry charging system at its City depot. In total, 201 zero-emission buses will operate under the contract, with 125 entering service in 2027. A record 165 electric buses will begin operating from the first day of central services in July 2027, the largest initial rollout in New Zealand. Eastern services will start in December 2026. 🚌🇵🇹 CaetanoBus is leading the world’s first #hydrogen Bus Rapid #Transit (BRT) consortium headed by a bus manufacturer, marking its shift from vehicle producer to #mobility solutions provider. The project supports the launch of #Metro do Porto’s first hydrogen-powered #BRT corridor in Porto. Under a single-contract model, CaetanoBus coordinated vehicle supply, green hydrogen production, refuelling infrastructure, solar energy generation, depot energy management and long-term maintenance. The system includes 12 H2.CityGold 18-metre #buses using #Toyota fuel cell #technology. The integrated structure centralises accountability, aiming to improve reliability, reduce complexity and lower total cost of ownership. Northern #Ireland #Transport Holding Company (Translink) Freedom of Information release: The Northern Ireland Transport Holding Company (Translink) has disclosed how funding for the Glider, also known as the #Belfast Rapid #Transit project, was allocated following a Freedom of Information request received on 6 January 2020. The scheme was delivered jointly with the Department for Infrastructure and supported by the #EU Jobs and Growth programme. The total project cost was £94.5 million. Of this, £24 million was spent on Glider vehicles, £6.2 million on halts, £1.3 million on real-time information systems and £7.4 million on off-vehicle ticketing. A further £55.6 million was allocated to other infrastructure works. The Mayor and council leaders have unveiled a new #Transport Vision for the West of #England, aiming to create a reliable, integrated network to support the region’s growing #economy. The plan prioritises better buses, more #trains, a new mass #transit system, improved walking and cycling routes, and upgraded streets and travel hubs. The West is the largest city-region without mass transit, and leaders aim to begin building within four to five years. Backed by £752 million in funding, more than 250 new low-emission buses, new rail stations and expanded active #travel schemes are under way. My 7-year-old is on the spectrum and is a HUUGE fan of trains, specifically the New York City subway system. Lately, he's feeling different from the other kids at school, none of whom love trains. The kids are alright. This roving gang of Transit Foamers rides the Montréal REM extension on its first day, going to every new station and exploring the surrounding area, giving a review of each as a whole.
