Thanks to Debian's newly founded DFSG team, cockpit-files finally made it out of the NEW queue and is now available in Debian unstable and Ubuntu's development series! 🎉

Ubuntu 22.04/24.04 LTS backports are uploaded and await review. Debian 13 backport will be uploaded in a few days after the package enters testing.

This week's Cockpit release adds a systemd/polkit-based superuser authentication (think `run0`) as a fallback when sudo is not available/broken. It also finally removes the long-deprecated pam_cockpit_cert module.

Had a recent hiccup with our Fedora release process for the past 2 releases, but the lastest release is now published!

Features unclean shutdown notice, disabled SPICE enabled by default for VMs, and network IP config now autofills network prefix length and gateway!

These are the last releases for this year and we'll continue to release more starting 2026! 💙

Unfortunately #cockpit-files has been sitting in #Debian NEW queue for 6 months now. If you want a deb package for it, you can install it from
https://launchpad.net/~pitti/+archive/ubuntu/cockpit-files for the time being. (The deb also works on Debian,
it's Architecture: all).

@martinpitt@fosstodon.org will keep this up to date with new releases until it goes into Debian/Ubuntu officially.
