You'll find me in the kitchen. If not there, I'll be in the garden, talking to the bees.

Let me cook you something - Indian perhaps?

Good morning all you beautiful ones.

I had an excellent Tadka Dal at a pub last night. That's a bit of a first here. With an excellent roti, saffron rice and a raita that could have used a better quality yoghurt. All in all tho, it was very very good.

Perhaps an Indian chef in the kitchen. There were several Indian dishes on the menu and a kasundi to go with some snacks.

It's a cold morning. I am not used to cold mornings yet. I like a bit of warmth on my feet. The days might be warm but Autumn is definitely here.

Have a lovely day, won't you. Be mindful. Be kind.

Why parboiled rice is used in idli and dosa batter :https://swethasivakumar.substack.com/p/why-do-idli-batters-use-parboiled

This is the first time I have seen this explanation, thanks to Swetha! She also explains why some recipes have some raw rice as well.

I lost my notebook with all my fermentation notes in it.

Searched the house for ages and ages. Distraught. Sad.

Started new notebook for notes until I found it.

Wrote some notes.

Did some things.

Sat down.

Lifted up my laptop.

Fermentation notebook was underneath it.

Happy again 💃

Everyone! I have made a (very) small start on the front garden. I've been working away on the veggie/fruit tree garden and the side herby and citrus garden but not the front, quite horrible garden. It is time to transform it, inch by inch. it will take me the rest of the year, no doubt, but the first horrid, self-sown plant has been dug and disposed of.

** No veggies or fruit in this garden.

My goodness it is nearly 4pm. Where has this day gone?

Oh yeah, I've spent a lot of time in the garden today. It has been heavenly.

Still more to do. It might be a pizza night tonight unless I can find something in the fridge.

Sometimes retro is good, right? We make fun of the food from the 70’s and 80’s in its seemingly insane attempts to be more sophisticated. But amongst all the dishes that seem are so funny when we look back at them are some gems – let’s not throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Out of that era comes an orange sauce that pairs nicely with broccoli. I make it quickly – no French finesse here when we need to get food on the table. Good Australian Verjuice makes a delicious addition, but use white wine if you wish. Go the whole way and top the dish with toasted flaked almonds if desired – they are lovely with this dish.

I have been known to make a plate of this and eat it for lunch. It is that good. If you can get home-grown oranges, all the better. We have trees and they taste so good compared to shop bought ones.

**** Orange Sauce
Heat the juice and zest of 2 oranges in a small saucepan and add 1 Tblspn of verjuice or dry white wine. Simmer until it is syrupy and almost evaporated.

Take 100g of room temperature butter, and whisk in 1 Tblspn at a time. Add it slowly, continuously stirring, until the sauce achieves a silky smooth texture. Don’t allow it to boil.

Season the sauce with sea salt and white pepper, and pour it over steamed broccoli.

Note:
If in a hurry, evaporate the orange juice by about half, turn the heat right down, add half the butter and stir until melted. Remove from the heat and whisk in the remaining butter. Season with sea salt and white pepper. The sauce won’t be as glossy and silky, but it is still fabulously flavoured.

Good morning all you beautiful people.

A warm day today (34C) with a 90% chance of 3 drops of rain. Tomorrow, same chance of 3 drops. I am watering the garden anyway because I scattered some organic fertiliser pellets around this morning and 6 drops is not enough rain in our hotter than hot Summer.

Speaking of which, we have some unexpected respite Sunday to Wednesday, with temps below 20. The forecast was adjusted from the last time I looked. (And next weekend looks like some almost-decent rain with hot temps, so it will be humid 😓 )

A lovely morning in the garden, doing a bit of this and a bit of that. And I chopped the comfrey and spread the leaves around the citrus and over some beds. I've been meaning to do that for ages.

I picked some radishes, moringa leaves and amaranth leaves to use in the kitchen today.

Have a lovely day everyone. Get some sunshine if you can. xx

hey, all my air fryer friends - I am considering getting an air fryer for xmas. Is it worth it for vegetarian food? Let me know me your fav vegetarian air fryer thing you make. If you have settings on your air fryer (air fry, bake, grill, roast, etc), do you use them or just stick to air frying? #AirFryer
