A vigil we held in my hometown because the gentleman on stage lost his wife and three stepsons when they were recently kidnapped by ICE. I will be attending a second community meeting tonight to further discuss what we can do to support this family and others who are now living in fear and will no longer leave home to shop, etc. we have built quite the network to offer support. The woman and her children were here legally after seeking asylum at the border in 2023. She was working two jobs and her kids were doing great in school. She sought asylum because of cartel violence in Jalisco, where she was deported to recently and violence has broken out amongst the cartels. #Insanity #StopIllegalDeportations

Last night, 120 of my fellow community members came together to talk and learn about the mom and 3 children who were kidnapped by ICE in the wee hours of Tuesday morning. As of last night, mom and the two youngest are safe in Mexico thanks to the diligence of clergy from Alaska and Mexico. The 18 year old has been moved to a detention center in Tacoma...we don't know why. They were granted asylum in 2023 and had done everything asked of them, broke no laws, top students in school, beloved my many. Mom recently married the love of her life, a US citizen. They were a happy family until...There was so much love, compassion and concern in the gathering last night. This is the first time children and a parent have been taken in our community. My feeling icky aside, my small community has been dealing with the kidnapping of a mom and three children by ICE. Early morning raid, mom and three children taken. The youngest is FIVE! The husband, American citizen born in Alaska, and the media was told they would be in a hotel in Anchorage...lie! They were put on a plane and deported. Mom was here legally after being granted asylum in 2023. Her crime? Missed a meeting in Jan. that she thought was in June. Attorney assured her all was well...it was not! Mom and 2 youngest are in Tijuana all alone. Oldest, 18, is in Anchorage jail for reasons unknown. No criminal history, hard working mom and member of our community.
