When Oshizu Hebimori tried to impress Komichi Akebi by telling her she could play the guitar, she never expected the energetic country bumpkin to accidentally call her on her lie by asking her to play something.

After several weeks of practicing basic guitar cords in secret, Oshizu shows up to class one morning with her father's guitar strapped across her back determined to make good on her embarrassingly false claim.

Thanks to twists and turns in the plot, the free spirited Papika has been in love with reserved, self-conscious Cocona for a few weeks, or something bordering on decades, depending on how you look at things. She makes it clear early and often that she love love love love love LOVES Cocona!

It's only near the end, when Cocona finally figures out who she wants to be, that she is able to return Papika's love!

I've got at least a couple top villains, but I think perhaps the most spectacularly evil has got to be Ragyo Kiryuin!

Always stunningly, provocatively, dressed, with her crazy rainbow-projecting hair, this is a character who attempted to destroy the earth by paving the way for a parasitic, space-fairing, alien super-intelligence to cover the planet before causing it to explode to spread itself further among the stars... and that was perhaps the LEAST of her crimes!

@apc@starside.social Ranked at 6,200 on Anime Planet, my pick for a Hidden Gem is Strain: Strategic Armored Infantry.

This show has its problems. Its art and animation struggle to reach mid-tier. Its story is only mostly baked. It is stuck at DVD quality.

But it also tells a surprisingly good sci-fi story filled with tragedy and determination made all the more interesting because of its rules on interstellar travel.
