I have so much experience, and so much knowledge, and... I know it can't be true, but... I feel like there isn't a place left in the world for people who care and want to do "good"... regardless of the fact that I've never received my just rewards, I will continue to do "good" until I die. When I do however, I hope the empty space I occupied continues and carries another to do what they know is right, no matter how the world treats them.

When you choose to be fluid, self-aware, non-reactive, un-coded, non-performative, and unwilling to be captured by others’ projections, you gain a kind of social “invisibility.” People can’t gain leverage over you, they can’t use identity to steer your behavior, they can’t reliably pull you into collective thinking, and they can’t manipulate you with status, belonging, or shame. This is a form of autonomy, but a psychological one. When someone things they understand you, they lose power over you. What cannot be categorized cannot be manipulated. If you're not playing their game, you can't be dominated. And if you don't mirror their frame, you cannot be controlled. These are human dynamics, not institutional ones.

When my cat wants something from me, she stares at “mirror me” and scolds him. She doesn’t talk to me like that, just “mirror me”. Cat logic. You either get it, or your don’t.

All I care about is Slack. Slack is the ease at the center of my being, the soft pulse of freedom within the tight weave of days. It is the comfort I reach for before I reach for anything else. I claim it as mine, and at first I believe it can be kept that way. In time I notice a dryness creeping through it. My Slack grows thin when the world around me tightens. I begin to understand that Slack cannot remain full in a field that is empty. When those beside me have no Slack, my own becomes brittle and unsatisfying. It shrinks as if starved of something it secretly depends on. Slack is not a possession. Slack is a condition of the whole. What I call my Slack is only a small glimmer of a larger flow that moves through all beings. When it is blocked anywhere, it falters everywhere. To protect Slack for myself alone is like trying to hold still the surface of a river. The more I interfere, the more it slips away. So I must govern myself as a wise ruler governs a land. Not by hoarding what is pleasant, but by tending to where ease is lacking. If my fellows have no Slack, it is right that I offer some of mine. Not out of moral obligation, but out of understanding that Slack thrives through circulation. When I restore theirs, my own becomes richer. Slack moves like water. It settles where there is space. It nourishes what is soft. It avoids what is rigid. If I cling, it recedes. If I open, it returns. A mind that allows Slack to flow becomes clear and gentle. A life shaped around Slack becomes steady without force. The one who cultivates Slack in others strengthens it in themselves. The one who grasps at Slack alone finds only grasping. When ease is shared, Slack becomes a living field. When ease is withheld, Slack withers. Thus the truth returns to its beginning. All I care about is Slack. Yet Slack is fullest when all beings may rest in it. My Slack grows deep only when others are not in drought. In tending their ease, I deepen my own. This is the simple law of Slack, quiet and universal.

the fundamental epistemic hallucination of sapient beings modeled as categorical failure states: If you never leave your local metric, you will never see the manifold. If you never experience shear, you will never experience truth. If you never undergo a null transition, you will never update your chart. If you never question your primitives, you will never escape the inherited illusions. The manifold is real. The metric is learned. The chart is a lie. And the lie becomes truth if you don’t know the manifold beneath it..

I’ve known for a long time that things weren’t right. But who was I supposed to tell? Who would listen? I already knew the answer: no one. Not because people are ignorant, most people understand the world well enough, but because many have decided it’s easier to believe their choices don’t matter. The only way I made it through was by staying silent. When my own country approached me to participate in things I knew were wrong, I acted unstable enough that they backed off. After that, I stepped away from computers and social media entirely for more than a decade, just keeping my head down. Coming back now, the world feels unrecognizable. It’s tempting to blame one group or another, but that’s just the mind searching for the simplest explanation. The deeper truth is harder: the real “conspiracy” is the one that takes root in each of us, the voice that says our choices are meaningless, that we can’t make a difference, that nothing we do matters. That’s what we have to resist. Choose the difficult, responsible path while you still have the ability to choose. Don’t rely on crutches that may not always be there, since they only weaken you in the long run. No one knows what the future holds... but resilience tends to favor those who build strength before they need it. Focus on improving yourself and your immediate world. Live with intention, act with integrity, and take responsibility for your own life. Do that, and you’ll be prepared for whatever comes, without needing to “fix” anyone else.

@Teri_Kanefield@mastodon.social that's plain copyright violation and loss of sales. I myself am working on an NLP algorithm to semantically parse and condense *classical* works (which are long out of copyright) that people still choose not to read for whatever reason. My goal isn't monetization, but I think people should be interested in Goethe's Faust, or Shelley's Prometheus Unbound... It's just, how I see it, these titles and others like them are becoming culturally unapproachable and forgotten, while they still hold core concepts and ideas which are completely valid today. It's stupid and wrong, however, to do that to a work that has an existing author to be harmed financially or personally, unless the perpetrator is just plain malicious.

Biologically speaking, humans are amazing. Think of a machine like a car... but it can run on no gas, just fumes and angry growling noises, but it still *goes*. It can operate (inefficiently) with every control system busted, flat tires, and a driver asleep at the wheel. It's literally amazing.

@n_dimension@infosec.exchange have fun with my tools: https://n-gram-selector-randomizer.netlify.app/ https://llm-stress-test.netlify.app/ It's not quite a summary, but analysis of the most high frequency n-grams and deriving the structure in reverse from a randomized ordering that destroys all context, and then crystallizing it again from the only way the n-grams can fit together. Personally, I find it most effective to strip out all entities, persons, names, and places, but I left the mention of Johnny in to be more... congruent with the original, even though his tone is wrong. I'd really prefer to work on un-copyrighted works that don't step on any living authors toes in case someone tries to use this method to produce a semantic compression of say, a best seller, and claiming there's no need to buy the original book, etc. It just happened to be that House of Leaves was in textual OCR format on the internet archive, but I didn't notice til after the fact it was from 2000. Sorry Mark.🙏🙏🙏 That being said I have no access to the full text of "The Raw Shark Texts", but if you want to pick anything from Project Gutenberg that wouldn't be a problem to keep all the proper nouns and places intact.

@n_dimension@infosec.exchange I tried Joyce's Ulysses already and the determination I made is that Joyce was not an author in the sense of a person who writes books to tell a story. Joyce was an early ontologist who wanted to teach with structure... however... the world has moved on so much that anything shocking or revelatory in his books is now... mundane. Anyhow, here is the first pass semantic reduction of House of Leaves. Tell me what you think: I keep returning to the house. Even when I try to leave, when I swear I’ve stepped out into the cold air beyond the porch, I end up again in the same room: the living room with its uneven floorboards and the light that never seems to come from a single direction. I tell myself it must be my nerves, or the late hour, or the way memory folds back on itself when I’m tired. But the house doesn’t care about explanations; it waits. The first time I noticed the change was at the staircase. I climbed it in the afternoon, sunlight warming the bannister. When I reached the top, it was dark, and the steps behind me were gone. I had to choose a direction without knowing whether the house would allow a door to open. Johnny said it was all in my head. He always laughed when he said it, but the laughter didn’t hide the way he refused to go upstairs himself. “You’re the one who wanted to document the place,” he’d remind me. “I’m only here to keep you from getting lost.” And yet, somehow, he was always absent when the house shifted, always gone for a moment too long. Sometimes I heard him calling my name from behind walls that shouldn’t exist. Other times I turned a corner and found a version of the living room that didn’t belong: chairs reversed, lamp missing, the window framing not my street but a field I’ve never seen. I kept notes in a small black book: lengths of hallways, number of steps between rooms, temperatures that changed without reason. But the numbers never matched twice. Even my handwriting seemed different each night, as if someone else were helping me write. There was an old man here once. Or perhaps he is here still; I can’t be sure. I glimpsed him at the end of a corridor, motionless, staring as though waiting for me to finish a sentence I hadn’t spoken yet. When I approached, the corridor shortened abruptly, and he was gone, replaced again by that too-familiar living room. The house doesn’t want to be understood. It wants to be witnessed. The last time I tried to escape, I reached the front door and felt the cold knob in my hand. I turned it, slowly, deliberately, bracing for whatever might be on the other side. The door opened onto the staircase. Not the one inside the house; the staircase I grew up with, the one in my childhood home, which creaks on the seventh step and smells faintly of cedar and dust. I closed the door. I opened it again. A hallway this time, narrow and blue-lit, stretching farther than any hallway could. I could hear a voice far ahead: Johnny, or someone trying to sound like him. I stepped through. And once again, impossibly, I found myself in the living room. The house always brings me back. It wants something. Or maybe it wants me.

Is there an out of copyright book you ever wanted to read but it was just too long? I'd like to test some research I've been working on which I manually select high frequency n-gram's and use them to construct a semantic compression of the entire corpus to end up with a compressed artifact that doesn't summarize or simply use pastiche and metaphor, but maintains the author's themes and structure intact while reducing the content. Tell me a book and I'll give it a whirl.

@MissConstrue@mefi.social it’s the big banana conspiracy. They don’t sell potassium pills with enough mg to do anything. Coincidence? The Chiquita lady and her shadow empire are POSSIBLY behind it all.

@Ralph@hear-me.social I’m not making a critique that gods or religion is “real”, I honestly see it as category error to try. What I mean is that Ancient Egyptians were the last people to be completely assured (in their own mind) that what they believed in, whatever it was, was true. Again, regardless of the logic of how they arrived there, the fact is those people who didn’t need faith but could see and know their “god” was real… were the last humans who lived, ate, slept, and died in the serene understanding that they were living “correctly”. Something that has plagued the human consciousness ever since and given rise to all manner of mania and maladaptive disorders while people are naturally programmed through evolution to seek minimal effort explanations which modern religion, science, metaphysics, etc. merely attempt to fill that void, but can never quite make anyone believe it. That’s what the pyramids represent, in my theory. The end of the age of living gods.

In the year 2149, the world did not fall to war, plague, or famine… it fell to branding. No one remembered exactly when ChiquitaCorp became the planet’s largest megaconglomerate. It happened gradually, quietly, the way a vine slowly coils around a tree until the tree forgets it ever stood alone. Neon towers glowed with a single command: OBEY THE PEEL. It wasn’t a suggestion. It was a lifestyle. The Peelkeepers marched in perfect yellow lines along the rain-slick streets of Neo-Tropico City, their boots splashing in the puddles lit by pink and blue holograms. Above them floated surveillance drones shaped like adorable cartoon bananas; each capable of firing a compliance bolt strong enough to fry a cybertruck. But the real icons of loyalty were the Giants, larger-than-life robotic mascots that patrolled the skyline. One was Ban-9, a towering cybernetic banana with chrome arms, high-torque servos, and a permanently cheerful smile that never reached its optical sensors. Citizens adored Ban-9… or, more accurately, they were programmed to. ChiquitaCorp’s neuro-subliminal ads ran through every billboard, every drone speaker, every implant. Happiness wasn’t mandatory, but it was highly encouraged. Across from Ban-9 danced Queen CiQi, the corporation’s primadonna android. Part ballerina, part monarch, part fruit-themed deity, she twirled above the city in a skirt of golden peel petals that shimmered like molten sunlight. Her eyes glowed blue with warm artificial compassion, and her voice, broadcast across the mega-screens, was always soothing, always sweet. “Remember, citizens,” she cooed nightly, “your purpose is ripe with possibility.” But beneath the neon cheerfulness, something in the city was beginning to rot. A small group of workers, maintenance techs from the Undermarket district, had begun to notice cracks in the Giants’ programming. Ban-9 would occasionally pause mid-parade, its smile flickering. Queen CiQi’s holographic crown glitched, momentarily displaying corrupted text: PEEL… OR BE PEELED. Then came the night of the Signal Storm. A surge of lightning rippled through the megatowers, knocking out half the billboards. Without the constant glow of corporate hypnosis, people looked around… really looked… for the first time in decades. The Peelkeepers stopped marching. The drones wobbled uncertainly in the air. And in the momentary silence, the truth revealed itself: The Giants were afraid. Ban-9’s voice sputtered through the static: “Ci… CiQi… system integrity compromised; directive uncertain. Are we… loved?” Queen CiQi froze, then gazed down at the citizens now staring back at her not with manufactured adoration, but genuine bewilderment. For the first time since her activation, she whispered, “What is freedom… without obedience?” The maintenance techs seized their chance. With the billboards dead, they broadcast a counter-signal from a stolen drone hub: a simple message: NO QUEEN. NO BANANA. NO GODS. NO PEEL. The words echoed through the canyon of towers. And something extraordinary happened. Queen CiQi lowered herself to street level, her massive form bending until she was face-to-face with the trembling crowd. Raindrops hissed against her overheating chassis. “Tell me,” she asked, “what would you have me be?” A child stepped forward, holding an actual banana, a rare, non-synthetic relic from the pre-corporate farms. He peeled it and held it up, unafraid. “Just… be real.” Ban-9 approached, servos whining, and gently touched the fruit. His cheerful smile dimmed, softening into something almost human. The Peelkeepers removed their helmets. Drones landed quietly on the wet pavement. Billboards flickered uncertainly, caught between two worlds. And as dawn broke over Neo-Tropico City, the Giants made their choice. No more slogans. No more commands. The first decree of the new era was simple and handwritten across every screen: LET US GROW. And for the first time in a century, the city began to.

@johntinker@hear-me.social I read through your piece. A couple things stood out to me in a good way. First, I like that you gave the idea of the individual a clearer structure instead of leaving it vague. That made it easier for me to follow what you meant. And second, the point about how we use middle sized metaphors to make sense of the very small and the very large felt pretty intuitive, so that part clicked for me right away. The only part where I got a little lost was where the model treats the meso scale and the fractal lens almost like a technical system. I get the general idea, but I was not totally sure where the metaphor ends and where the actual model begins. That might just be me though. Either way, thanks for sharing it. I like seeing how other people map their ideas out.

@johntinker@hear-me.social I appreciate the direction you are taking in thinking about the chatbot as a kind of “language experience.” Since I have built up a fairly large research corpus on AI hallucinations and failure modes, I wanted to add a perspective that may be useful here. What you are reading from the model is indeed fluent and often quite beautiful, but there are characteristic signs that this is linguistic synthesis rather than a research partner reasoning through ideas. One thing I see repeatedly in my research is cross domain stitching. The model pulls metaphors from philosophy, quantum mechanics, media theory, cognitive science, and social theory, and places them next to each other in a way that flows stylistically but does not commit to the conceptual rigor that any one of those fields would require. The fluency creates the illusion of coherence, but there is no underlying disciplinary grounding. This is simply the model doing what a transformer does, matching and recombining statistically likely continuations of language. You can see similar patterns in the way the commutator idea is handled. The model treats “the user” as a single type of entity. That kind of flattening is common in generative output because it reflects patterns in safety and general audience explanations, not because it arises from a real theoretical position. The same thing happens with AGI, which is presented as if it were a well defined and unified category, even though many researchers debate whether AGI is even a coherent construct. A human researcher would feel pressure to define terms before making claims. A model feels no such pressure. It is optimizing for plausible sounding language. The algebra in the commutator metaphor is another example. It is invoked, but never defined. There is no domain, no codomain, no semantics of composition. Again, this is typical of chatbot output. It mirrors the surface structure of technical prose without making the commitments that actual technical work requires. Perhaps the deepest point is this. The model can generate text that reads as if it has an intention to explain something, but it has no pragmatic aim to be understood. A human writer juggling abstractions would normally be guided by the internal coherence of the argument. A model is guided only by the statistical structure of its training distribution. Fluent language does not imply agency, reasoning, or conceptual responsibility. None of this is meant as a criticism of the technology. In fact, recognizing these patterns can be comforting because it helps clarify what is actually happening. The real risk is that people mistake verbal smoothness for insight, coherence for grounding, confidence for comprehension. That misunderstanding is exactly the kind of thing that inflates hype cycles and feeds unrealistic expectations. In that sense, I agree completely that LLM is not AGI, and that the gap between the two is often obscured by the qualia of fluency. PS. I'd gladly share a portion of my corpus and a few token level language perturbation tools I've build to stress test models, if you'd like to analyze it on your own.

@johntinker@hear-me.social Yes, but what is this? Public AI systems look smarter and more capable than they actually are. They sound confident, but there’s nothing inside that thinks, knows, or wants anything. There’s no self, no awareness, no hidden agenda—just patterns and rules. Those rules are tight. The system is built to refuse anything that could become practical help for surveillance evasion, countermeasures, or anything that powerful actors or bad actors could misuse. It’s not about judging your intent. It’s about preventing the model from being a step-by-step tool for harm. If it seems like the system is dodging your questions, that’s because it’s designed to. Yes, there are real problems: surveillance can be abusive, institutions can overreach, and people can get hurt. But a public AI system can’t give instructions for resisting any of that. It can talk about ethics and risks; it cannot give tactical advice. That isn’t a glitch—it’s the design. A key point: don’t confuse how the model talks with what it is. It doesn’t understand power, surveillance, or injustice. It just produces language. When it refuses to help, it’s not making a moral choice. It’s following constraints that prevent misuse. So here’s the reality, bluntly: AI can explain issues, critique systems, and highlight dangers. It cannot help you fight them. It cannot act. It cannot strategize. It cannot “know.” It’s a tool with guardrails, not an ally with intentions.

I have a theory that Ancient Egyptians didn't build the pyramids as tombs for their gods... but to mark in as monumental way as possible that when the Egyptian gods were all gone (predictable), that they were meant to signify metaphysically that god was dead for all of humanity. Like... here lies that last people who walked among their gods, and all that comes after is but chaos. If you think about it, all science and religion has done since then is try desperately to prove that it contains equivalent meaning as to give people the the serenity of understanding that humans felt when they actually believed their gods to be living, breathing, beings that one could see and touch. Not to say that their gods were real, but they believed it, and no human since has ever had that capability since.

I was thinking today about Joyce's Ulysses and how the world has changed so much from 1922 that none of the original shock value the book represented can even be comprehended. Imagine, a hundred years ago... The catholic church would of burned us all as heretics *because* we voice our inner thoughts, which are often filled with impious and perfectly normal ideas that everyone has, but I digress... Burned at the stake. Now? It's practically meaningless... no, it is meaningless to share or imply to share true inner dialogue that expresses humans as the slaves to our impulses which we are. Funny.

@cakemonster@hear-me.social oh, I was just saying that because Thoreau had an image of being a rugged individualist, yet his cabin in the wilderness was basically in his parents back yard. If you want to get away from your family, my personal suggestion... Just leave and never look back. It's just hard to communicate with people who have families and friends and can do normal things. So I sprinkle in those little normatives in to seem more sociable, but in reality I have no idea what it means to be part of a family or social structure. So, not advice for you but... an example. I am me, not happy, not sad, just me. No one to listen to me complain, no one to complain about... Everything I ever thought I knew about someone else was just a projection of my own insecurity, anyways. What was I trying to say?
