The lack of decent protest songs having any mainstream impact shows just how tightly leashed the culture is now. Fascism is rising and the most we get is LGBTQ+ support statements at award shows that would have been mainstream a decade prior. Even folk has been co-opted, instead of the next Dylan, we get fascist adjecent rich kids like Mumford and Sons, and country replaced slide guitara with dogwhistles.

Iran was working with America to fight the Taliban after 9/11 with reformists trying to soften relations. America turned around and called them part of the Axis of Evil, lumping them in with countries they had no ties to.

I know that is an oversimplification, and people will bring up the vile things done by their theocratic rulers, but nearly every nation in the region is as bad in most repects and they don't get burnt, subjected to public humiliation or bombed. Why does Iran have a Theocratic dictatorship? Because the US orchestrated a coup over oil and inflicted a wildly unpopular monarch who spent money they didn't have, like water, which they also didn't have.
