OK..news from the "involuntary admin" front.
Infos I had from my partners mother:
"I can do nothing on my laptop any more. There's always a message 'no permission' when I try X or Y. And it said deleting cookies may help so I tried. But something went wrong and I was afraid to continue"
What I saw when I checked the laptop:
- Firefox icon in task bar and desktop blank
- Chrome icon in task bar and desktop blank
- Virus scanner icon in task bar and desktop blank
- All 3 programs didn't start although OS said they are installed
What they saw in my face:
"How the bloody hell..... wtf.. ??"
It took me 50 minutes to reinstall the 3 programs on her 2 core 4GB Win8.1 machine while the 5400rpm HDD swapped for its life.
And another 20 minutes to make her Gmail account accessible again without her remembering the password and not having a recovery mail set.
You know.. Time is my most precious resource. And just because someone doesn't care about how long a laptop needs to start a webbrowser because he/she can do the dishes in the meantime and therefore don't wants to buy new hardware doesn't mean that I feel the same while fixing other peoples problems.
So..to all customers of FamilyAdmin Inc. who might read this:

I had to collect surveillance videos from various of private houses and businesses a lot recently.
I came across a variety of NVRs many of which were a challenge for my nerves and mental health.
Example 1:
Exporting a 15 minute sequence of 2 cameras. After 1.5 hrs the status display switched from 0% to 1%.
Example 2:
This specific NVR allowed only to set a starting time for the export. The end time was chosen _randomly_ by the NVR itself. Sometimes 2 minutes, sometimes 1 hour after the start time. The 6 hour span which should be exported was done for 3 cameras in ~15-20 chunks each.
I don't know what the developers of such systems were up to ... but while doing the video exports I had thoughts about flogging them in public.

If you have your Samsung T7 Touch SSD encrypted with a password (and maybe a fingerprint) ..and you want to remove the encryption (or delete/change password/fingerprint).... Your device (MS Win) has to be connected to the internet. Otherwise the neccessary software just hangs after unlocking the SSD.
WTAF Samsung. For real.
This lead me to two questions:
1. What are the odds that passwords and fingerprints are casually transfered to some Samsung service? (Rhetorical question. No answers expected)
2. I constantly mistyped "encryption" as "encraption" while composing this toot. Should I stick with that term when it comes to Samsung?

Hey #fedihelp :)
I'm tinkering with #nextcloud in my #homelab a bit.
Just tried to get AppAPI running with Docker Socket Proxy.
I can register the daemon but the test deploy fails in the INIT step because I'm using self-signed certificates with my NC install (see attached pic of the log).
Is there a work-around for this (except allowing HTTP connections)?

If you set a timer on your #GrapheneOS (and most likely on any #android device?) because you're baking bread and don't want it to come out as a lumo of coal... And while the timer ticks down GrapheneOS decides to do a casual update and then auto-reboots... The timer keeps ticking down as if nothing happened and your bread turns out to be delicious.
