cool. I guess I'm going to need to legally yell at Social Security and/or my insurance provider.
Sunday afternoon, I messaged my insurance:
In recent telephone communications, I have been repeatedly misgendered and did not feel comfortable speaking up to request that my gender identity is respected. Is there somewhere I can put my title and pronouns in order to avoid this in the future?
this morning, I got back:
Thank you for informing us of your concerns. I sincerely apologize for the experience you have had.
You will need to update your gender with Social Security. The Social Security office submits the information to Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), who forwards the updates to us. This may take up to 30 days to correct. Please contact Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 for your request.
I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Thank you for allowing me to help you today. You might receive a short survey regarding our conversation. It will ask you to rate my service, with 10 being the best. I appreciate your time.
my response to this bullshit:
I did that whole process with Social Security nearly two years ago; my Social Security profile should have an F marker. Regardless, it is ridiculous that I cannot express a preference independently of what Social Security's records show.
if those motherfuckers at Social Security changed my gender marker back to M I am going to be incandescent.
