Being a lazy piece of shit who steals labor from workers is not mutually exclusive with being miserable. In fact I suspect they are interlinked, a lot of rich assholes also seem to be in constant mental anguish even though they don’t do anything useful. This is not to provoke pity for them, rather to clarify that I think a certain amount of labor is required for a person to live a complete and happy life.

They do, definitionally. They perform a service in exchange for a wage. This service is of net-negative use value for the society, but it’s a service nonetheless. Otherwise we could be arguing that people in advertisement or gambling industries don’t perform any labor.

I disagree.
Landlords are usually miserable, constantly worried about missing payments and mortgages and property values and blaming apartment dilapidation on the tenant. I’m yet to interact with a happy and fully mentally stable landlord.

Yes, exactly, I mention it in my comment. It _almost_ did the right thing and blundered in one detail.

This is what the California law requires BTW (except it makes the field mandatory which is shit). IMO in this case the EU solution is overcomplicated, it just feels like they needed an excuse to get more out of the COVID certificate investments...

The link in the comment is borked, as expected. But the PR itself is definitely OK: github.com/unipop-graph/unipop/pull/138

Windows 11 is less of a poop smelling ice cream truck and more of a Kaiser’s Coffee Shop van. And you ain’t in the driver’s seat.

Better still, in the Nix world there’s github.com/nix-community/plasma-manager which allows you to set up all the settings exactly once, and then auto-apply them on all the machines!

Honestly for desktop usage it doesn’t really matter. All inits have their idiosyncrasies (“A stop job is running for Session”/logging hell on openrc/etc). But for managing a fleet of bare-metal servers I find systemd to be the best, most polished one out of the lot.

Windows disappearing is a hiccup while things adapt
I would argue it’s not. There’s still a lot of professional and industrial software that doesn’t run on Linux at all, even through Wine. I’ve had a glimpse into the world of industrial automation, there’s a bunch of devices that simply don’t have the drivers to run on anything but a specific (old) version of Windows. Supply chain issues would persist for decades.

That's just not true. Most ATMs still run on Windows. There is a lot of industrial machinery running Windows 98 or XP to this day. A lot of POS devices too. Almost all accounting is done on Windows. The amount of chaos if it disappeared would be immense, it would probably be on the same order of magnitude as the last pandemic in terms of immediate economic impact as businesses have to manically switch to alternatives, and hundreds or thousands of people would die from financial chaos alone.
Linux is probably still worse because it would mean that more than half of smartphones are suddenly bricked, literally all of the internet just stops working, and a shitton of industrial automation stuff is gone.

It's still super fucked up that you're basically gifting some other person a sizeable chunk of your income just because they were able to put up a down payment and secure a mortgage. Landlords are rentseeking middlemen leaches that should not exist even by capitalist standards, see Adam Smith.

No, but regular calls (via 3G networks) work-ish; the only problem is that you can’t switch the audio output, i.e. hands-free calls are not a thing.

And then maaybe stop defaming her? Like, this post should be ban worthy by any reasonable instance and community rules?
This is a shitpost community, I’m pretty sure it is implied that everything posted here is satirical and/or ironic and/or made up for fun. You wouldn’t sue The Onion for defamation either (or maybe you would, IDK)

I can’t remember the site, now, but I literally couldn’t log into one this week because the email never arrived.
Well, email allows you to solve that issue by self-hosting. But what you can’t solve is that if you do self-host, gmail will drop your emails to spam or just discard them completely, just because it feels like it, even if you do the whole dance with DMARC and have used the domain for a good few years. It’s frustrating as shit.

TikTok got its hold mainly by being extremely addictive and using predatory dark patterns to keep you scrolling. That and being less censored compared to other corporate social media. While we can try to strive for the latter (with reasonable limitations), we shall not do the former, even if that means less users overall. "Avoid success at all costs".

Ah, it's not the best for cases like that, especially if you need to make different layouts all the time. You can get it to do anything with enough packages and positioning hints, but at some point it becomes too much of a chore. If you just need a dozen of layouts and then fill them out with different content, it's doable.

I haven't seen any WYSIWYG document editors that are any good. Markdown/Org for simpler stuff, L^A^T~E~X for more complicated stuff, or mix them together with pandoc.
