The Fediverse is (I hope) somewhere we can all feel free to be our whole self. As part of MHFA Whole Self day (https://mhfaengland.org/mhfa-centre/campaigns/My-Whole-Self-2026/ ) we are posting 'My Whole Self' selfies at work today. Here is mine. #MyWholeSelf

The cloud chamber is assembled with a proper display installed. Now testing how cold we can get the temperature plate. Nat and I will be showing this project at the #RaspberryPi Birthday this coming Saturday at #Makespace in Cambridge.

This is huge! This took a massive debugging effort to work out why RTK corrections were not being received on the ESP32 board. Finally the bug is squashed and RTK corrections are actually being applied.

Progress with my Quectel GNSS RTK board finally. After I got fed up having to input cryptic serial commands and interpret NMEA messages in serial consoles, I wrote a Python script which wraps the things I was interested in and translates the messages (after turning on the ones I want to see). My base station is now running a survey after my script configured it, and it is showing status information that is human readable.

My 15 year old mentioned that Roblox had required him to complete a face recognition age verification test this week. I asked how it went and he said it concluded he was between 18 and 21 years old. So this is how the UK legally required child protection policy is working in the field folks!

@lpoolmakefest@mastodon.social did me a world of good. 1st time I've been able to put thoughts of the problems life has recently thrown our way to the back of my mind and enjoy the company of others properly since my kid's emergency hospital admission in May, and my father's rapidly declining health in June. Still another week until my father's funeral, but I felt ready to tackle work and the Makespace Directors meeting today. So thank you to the #LivMakeFest crew, my Maker friends the good people of Liverpool.

@lpoolmakefest@mastodon.social MakeFest 2025 was such a great day. So many lovely people exhibiting their projects and creations, and interested members of the public asking about the 3D printers and robots. Here are some of my exhibits. Great to have Nat helping again. They were so good with the younger kids wanting to drive robots and play with the 3D prints.
