@matthewhowell@indieweb.social I think of this as a "hook" or "interceptor" kinda pattern, which is used in service workers.
I think that I've seen something similar in both Axios and with Express middleware, where every middleware can dip in and inspect/modify a request before it is completed.
I think most technically, it is the chain of responsibility pattern, maybe? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chain-of-responsibility_pattern
