"Most contemporary talk about climate breakdown frames the problem as one of adaptation. The future is coming... but if we prepare correctly... we will be able to play through it. This language treats climate change like a difficult piece of music...

"That framing smuggles in [two assumptions: stationarity and ergodicity]..."

"Climate breakdown breaks both of these assumptions. The issue is not simply that the tempo is increasing or that the piece is harder. It’s that the key itself is modulating mid-performance, and not in a way that resolves. The harmonic structure is drifting. Rhythms that once anchored coordination desynchronize. Extremes stop behaving like ornamentation and start functioning like the main theme. This is non-stationarity: the score is changing while you are still playing it.

"ICE agents are untrained" is true of some agents, but not of those who have done some of the agency's most heinous actions, including unprovoked homicide.

It's a popular line because it implies an easy solution, but denies that training seems to make agents *more* proficient at heinous things, not less.

I came across two interesting articles today, about COVID-19.

The first reports on the findings after surveilling ~900 animals across 27 species… that there was no SARS-Cov-2 in any sample.

That’s striking: the virus wasn’t detected in any wild or domestic species!

#COVID19 is becoming less of a “jack-of-all-trades” and more of a precision tool for penetrating human social density.

These specific mutations find their ideal home in environments defined by high-volume, indoor stasis: poorly ventilated warehouses, open-plan offices, service industry hubs, and mass transit. When a virus evolves for maximum aerosol persistence and rapid-fire reinfection, it is effectively evolving for the just-in-time logistics of modern commerce.

SARS-Cov-2 is developing a specialization for the working conditions of settler-colonialism. Workers in these cultures are often denied the agency to modify their environments. HEPA filters and sick leave would remove the two levers the virus has specialized toward exploiting. While the deer are “locking their doors” via biological evolution, the working class in settler societies is being forced to keep their doors open. The virus isn’t just specializing in Homo sapiens; it’s specializing in the specific vulnerability of people who have been reduced to “human resources” within a system that views viral persistence as a novel administrative tool.

Nazi administrators of concentration camps utilized infections to increase the rates of death during their extermination campaigns. They learned these techniques from American administrators of Indian reservations. Now, American administrators are using literally the same facilities they used to spread disease among Natives 130 years ago to do it again... ...and you're getting sick yourself every couple months, at least... ...and you still believe your administrators when they say COVID is over? *and* you expect me to treat your ideas about the world as well-informed, reasonable, and not self- and mass-murdering? Well, uh. No.

So the FBI aren't gonna let Minnesota agencies investigate Alex Pretti's homicide.

And so, of course, "Abolish ICE," because that's who the FBI is protecting.

But also, those Minnesota agencies... are who let ICE take away the evidence, in the first place. It's not like they were legally required to - in fact, the relevant laws indicate they should have prevented it!

So, Minnesota law enforcement either willfully or ignorantly failed at their duties.

Abolish them, and all the rest of cops and carcerality. Stop asking for the smallest little concession you can imagine and demand things start getting done different, beginning with doing things different yourself, by demanding more.
