My team at Apple is looking for engineering managers! You'd lead a small team of compiler frontend engineers working on the Swift language and developer experience.

The position is in person, and available in:

London: https://jobs.apple.com/en-us/details/200627625-2114/swift-compiler-engineering-manager

Cupertino: https://jobs.apple.com/en-us/details/200628041-0836/swift-compiler-engineering-manager

@jamesdempsey Good question - this is my first contribution to TSPL so I'm not sure what the expectations about review durations are. The good news is that, unlike language features, documentation can be iterated on long after the initial change is merged. Even if my change is merged before you are able to review, I would still love your feedback and I'm happy to put up follow-on PRs with more improvements! I also have a long list of things I'd like to document after this small change. That said, everyone will be busy next week (including me!) so I doubt it will be merged within one week :)

I’m starting a review of the data-race safety article in the Swift migration guide to make sure there’s parity with the concurrency chapter of TSPL.

Here’s a small RFC for feedback on documentation for isolation inference from class inheritance and protocol conformances: https://forums.swift.org/t/rfc-documentation-for-isolation-inference-from-classes-and-protocols-se-0316/80343

Let me know your thoughts, questions, and other feedback! I’ve long internalized these rules so I would love to know if my explanation makes sense to you.

RFC: Documentation for isolation inference from classes and protocols [SE-0316]

Hello! I'd like to add documentation of the isolation inference rules from classes and protocols in SE-0316: Global actors. Here's the relevant section of the proposal: swift-evolution/proposals/0316

My team at Apple is hiring! We’re a group of compiler frontend engineers working on the Swift language and developer experience. This team is full of opportunities - working on Swift has accelerated my expertise and my visibility, both because of the technical challenges and the support from my colleagues.

Positions are available in Cupertino: https://jobs.apple.com/en-us/details/200607784/swift-compiler-engineer

And in London: https://jobs.apple.com/en-us/details/200607324/swift-compiler-engineer

@krzyzanowskim@mastodon.social @helge@mastodon.social It’s a known issue that’s fixed by https://github.com/swiftlang/swift/pull/80595, which is not included in Swift 6.1.0. It’s an accidental crash on a code path where the compiler should emit a warning about a missing `any`. You can resolve the crash by adding `any` or `some` in front of `Collection` depending on which one you meant.

@jasongregori@hachyderm.io Educational notes are documentation for compiler errors that explain the problem and strategies for fixing the error. Educational notes have been included in the Swift toolchain for a while, but they’re not surfaced anywhere and coverage of compiler errors is pretty low. I’m working on fixing the coverage problem, and others are exploring ways to surface them, e.g.

on the Swift website: https://github.com/swiftlang/swift-org-website/issues/910

in VSCode: https://github.com/swiftlang/vscode-swift/issues/1395

Adding educational notes is also a great way to start contributing to Swift for anyone who is interested!
