Many auto-scaling systems have a tendency to scale up much more eagerly than to scale down. No one wants to write the auto-scaler that causes an outage.
The result: Many of them treat every day as if it was Black Friday 🦃 , contributing to an industry epidemic of overprovisioning.

@metacosm In Jelly Belly it's mostly vanilla, with a hint of butter. It's nicer than it sounds. I think the other key element is visual - definitely brightly coloured dots, and maybe the whole thing brightly coloured.

@metacosm it seems "birthday cake" flavour has become decoupled from actual birthdays. Jelly Belly have one too, but without the luminous blue colouring.

The zombie here is a bit different. I tried to make the QCon zombies look like they were decaying, but they mostly just looked furry, like the grinch in the 2018 movie. So this time I skipped the decay, but added a body that was supposed to look like a server.

I wrote a nice little thing about internet background noise and ghost packets, but I'm going to have to delete it all. My writing got ahead of my research, and most of what I wrote, including the core analogy, is Just Wrong. 😭

I'm just re-reading one of my abstracts, and it says
"In this talk, Holly will introduce Quarkus and then delve into some of the advanced features you might not know about."
