@servelan@newsie.social Corporate rights are antitrust, as they negate the rights of diverse interests to have elected representatives and delegates. Corporate sovereignty is ideological and monopolistic; games party divisions by grounding the outcome of elections on the finance of those who control the most capital, so is unsustainable. Its idea of competition depends on exploitation; wage and or indentured slavery to steal others resources so creates authoritarian cults. Interests Sovereignty, is not as it is sustainable. It requires mediation and cooperation to be competitive. How else can an ethically sustainable morality be realised? #PhilosophyofRights #politics #philosophy #sustainability #ethics #morality

FirstGroup has been recognised by three global #sustainability benchmarks, including the S&P Sustainability Yearbook, for the fourth consecutive year. The company moved up five places in the Clean200 ranking of the world’s largest public firms by sustainable revenue and retained a ‘B’ rating from CDP. It ranks among the top 10% in the transport sector for environmental and social management, including energy, water, and biodiversity initiatives. FirstGroup is one of 23 transport firms in the Yearbook and the UK’s 4th top company on the Carbon Clean 200 list, reflecting its commitment to decarbonisation, emissions reduction, and workforce investment. https://news.firstbus.co.uk/news/three-sustainability-benchmarks

Many institutions are committed to #sustainability. For this reason alone, #digitalsovereignty should be important to them. Two years ago, scientists from @JLBe@mastodon.social and its network published a study on the sustainable use of #smartphones. 👉 https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/sd.2995 It showed that typical #socialmedia apps such as #Instagram, #TikTok, #YouTube, etc. on #cellphones conflict with a number of sustainability goals. Among other things, they cause high #energy consumption, which is not incurred directly on the smartphone, but in #datacenters and transmission networks. A large proportion of the #electricity consumption is due to the fact that these apps do not respect #privacy and data protection, but instead spy on users. The use of #Mastodon and other #Fediverse services is more sustainable because much less data is exchanged between users' smartphones and the service instances.

A Department for #Transport study explored why people choose multi-modal journeys combining #buses, #trains, or #trams. Research with 67 participants (online, interviews, focus groups) found #travel choices are mainly influenced by convenience, cost, comfort, and safety, while #sustainability rarely affects local trips. Barriers include unreliable services, poorly aligned timetables, high planning effort, and unclear real-time information. Enablers include frequent services and contactless payments. Key measures to encourage use are better timetabling, lower fares, and unified travel information, with integrated ticketing and improved interchanges as supporting factors. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/factors-influencing-multi-modal-public-transport-use

My 9-year solar report card is in! in the spring of 2017, I installed my solar energy system. The price tag was $42,000 (I got slightly used panels and saved a lot). It was a significant upfront investment...and worth every penny. Now that we are in 2026, I ran the numbers. I passed the break even point in 2022, and am roughly $21,000 in profit! The total value generated so far is over $63k. The next five years look even better. With utility rates rising astronomically, the system will generate another $36k or so. By 2030, the total profit should exceed $100k !! If you are still on the fence about whether the math works on a solar investment….well, it did, does and will accelerate as energy prices keep inflating. It's much safer than many other investments in the current economy - at least until this regime is gone. #SolarEnergy #Investment #ROI #FinancialFreedom #Sustainability #CleanEnergy #Maryland #Solar
