Jesus Christ, there's a very rare trumpeter swan living in the East River of NYC. Who can even survive in that? https://hellgatenyc.com/behold-nycs-first-ever-trumpeter-swan-extinction/?utm_source=fark&utm_medium=website&utm_content=link&utm_campaign=fark&ICID=ref_fark #wildlife #bird #swan #cool #NYC

First sighting of a pair of ducks this year. I had seen the male and the female earlier but today is the first time that I saw them together. I approached carefully to say 'hello' and supply a little more breakfast, expecting them to be shy initially. They weren't - both were supremely relaxed with me and confident. They are also used to me pointing the camera at them. We know each other well from previous years. #ducks #mallard #MallardDucks #wildlife #GardenWildlife #WildlifePhotography #ArtistsGarden #ImperfectGarden #garden #gardener #gardening #GardenPhotography #Artist #wolfkettler #Photography #GardenWiltshire #WiltshireGarden #Wiltshire #spring #natural #NaturalGarden

Nottinghams hotel Mercure is currently host to a building net full of dead pigeons & dying chicks who have no one to feed them. Netting so horrendous multiple corpses hang decaying &broken inside it. Email/call/shame them. Tell them you'll not be booking a room there until there is safety for wildlife to fly free. Imagjne holidaying alongside dead carcasses. Disgusting... cruel. Remember the reason city pigeons exist and why they dont deserve to be maligned. Theyre not aggressive. They eat the shit we drop.. sadly even throw up which makes me want to vomit. They are used for homing hobbyists and get lost on their hundreds of miles journey enforced call to the place they were reared. How would we feel leaving our kids abroad and saying "find your way back so we can do it again!" Sigh. I wish folk didnt hate pigeons. Stop calling them sky rats. They arent vermin. They deserve housing & safe spaces in cities and towns https://www.instagram.com/reel/DVf8iyzDDn6/ #Hotel #wildlife #birds #animalrights

Glide Over Water I saw this ring‑billed gull (Larus delawarensis) a while back, flying down the beach at Gulfport, Mississippi, keeping a steady line parallel to the shore. Step into a world where even the smallest moments—like the glint in a bird's eye—tell their own story. https://swede1952-photographs.pixels.com #photo #photography #photographer #photographylovers #wildlife #nature #bird #birds #birding #birdwatching #birdphotography #whorebird #gull #ringbilledgull

Good morning. 🕊️🕊️🕊️ 6 March 2026 I’m moving slow this morning—too slow. The first thing I did after getting out of bed was take a nap, at least for as long as Charlie would allow. That window of unhindered rest turned out to be thirty minutes of the hour I had set aside for exactly that purpose. I made the mistake of leaving the back door open so Charlie could see outside, which meant he could also spot squirrels in the yard. For reasons known only to him, a squirrel sighting is reason enough to start pestering me. I’ve been retired a few years now, but back when I had to get up and go to work, there were plenty of mornings—after getting cleaned up and dressed—when I fantasized about sitting down in my recliner and going right back to sleep. But I had to soldier on and get to work. On days off, I would sometimes set my alarm for the usual time just so I could turn it off and go back to sleep. I considered that one of life’s small pleasures. I think I’ve developed a touch of age‑related laziness—pigritia senilis. It sounds like something I made up, which I did, but if you look it up you’ll find a surprising amount of information. My joking around may have turned into a small science project about the physiologic changes of aging. Interestingly, I first read that as “psychotic changes,” which might not be entirely inaccurate. The forces at work include aging‑related fatigue, reduced executive function, psychomotor slowing, anergia, motivational decline, frailty syndrome, cognitive slowing, and apathy. It helps to stay active, though. I lift weights once or twice a week to keep my strength up, but I have to admit that motivational decline is noticeable. “I don’t feel old. I don’t feel anything until noon. Then it’s time for my nap.” - Bob Hope “Inside every old person is a young person wondering what happened.” -Terry Pratchett #photo #photography #photographer #wildlife #nature #bird #birds #birding #birdwatching #birdphotography #pigeons #doves

Scientists discover two species, thought extinct for 6000 years, alive and well in New Guinea and also they're really cute https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cp814l80pw2o?utm_source=fark&utm_medium=website&utm_content=link&utm_campaign=fark&ICID=ref_fark #stem #science #animals #wildlife #cute

I've finally got around to confessing that we no longer live at Ruston House and updated the home page to say that. https://rustonhouse.org.uk/index.php "Today's Image", a feature of the home page of the site, shows a #cormorant, on a bridge over our #lake, a picture I took on 9 October 2013, the first #autumn we lived at the house. I don't claim to be a great #wildlife #photographer but if you want to browse through photos of all manner of #creatures that we saw while there take a look at the site.

River otters are back, and Ohio has led the way. Yes, *that* Ohio: "Otters are back. And their presence proves something worth remembering. Healing is possible. Ecosystems can recover. The story of the Great Lakes – its waters, its people, its wildlife – is still unfolding." #wildlife #otter #greatlakes #Ohio #ontario #Michigan #newyork #cleanwater #waterquality #pollution #habitat #ecology #Minnesota https://www.rewildingmag.com/the-river-otters-remarkable-comeback/

The Cincinnati Zoo’s rescued bald eagles are easy to miss — but their stories are some of the most powerful in the zoo. I put together a quick guide to what you’ll see and why this habitat is worth a stop. https://cincyzooguide.com/cincinnati-zoo-bald-eagles/ #cincinnati #cincinnatizoo #baldeagles #conservation #birds #wildlife #animals #ohio

Pale Flier This soft‑focused image of an American goldfinch in midair is actually a photo bomb. I was focused on a different bird when this one slipped into the corner of the frame. The result feels like a pastel made of light and motion, a small burst of color drifting through the shot at just the right moment. Step into a world where even the smallest moments—like the glint in a bird's eye—tell their own story. https://swede1952-photographs.pixels.com #photo #photography #photographer #photographylovers #wildlife #nature #bird #birds #birding #birdwatching #birdphotography #finch #americangoldfinch

I’m pleased to announce, that after two minutes of digging in the leaves and loose soil, they retrieved a full peanut-in-shell, -squirrelled away- promptly climbing the nearest tree for lunch. #squirrel #wildlife #photography #nature

Meanwhile, up at the 'big' #allotment, crocus are flowering,, while the daffodils and tulips are in the green. And I've created a pond, since this photo was taken I've added an escape route for anyone falling in. Plants will be added next week, when I hope to get it finished. #Allotment #Wildlife #Pond

Sparrow in the City I don’t have to go all the way to Savannah, Georgia to find house sparrows (Passer domesticus); there are dozens around my home. But Savannah happens to be where I took this picture of a little female. The image came out crisp, and the rusted metal post she’s perched on gives the whole scene a striking contrast that really makes her pop. This was along the river walk, where someone had tossed a handful of corn kernels into a landscaped island tucked between the walkways. If you enjoy photos of birds and other wildlife, take a look at my photo gallery. Sparrows are never overlooked—they're a valued and important part of my collection. Feel free to explore! https://swede1952-photographs.pixels.com #photo #photography #photographer #photographylovers #wildlife #nature #bird #birds #birding #birdwatching #birdphotography #sparrow #HouseSparrow
