Isn’t rainwater harvesting illegal in Utah?

As of 2010, all Utahns are allowed to legally collect up to 2,500 gallons of rainwater on their property in covered above ground containers or in underground cisterns. If a residence is collecting rain water in more than two containers under 100 gallons or in one container above 100 gallons, they must register with the State Engineer. The process is free and can be completed in just a few minutes online.

Top 7 ways to use water collected via RainHarvest:

- Use captured rain to irrigate your lawn, garden, or outside planters. You can even use it to water your indoor plants.
- Use water to supplement your drip irrigation system.
- Wash your car, bike, mailboxes, and other exterior fixtures with collected water.
- Utilize captured rainwater to wash out recyclable bottles and cans before putting them in your recycling bin and put the water on your outdoor plants after you are finished.
- Irrigate ornamental trees and plants.
- Use reclaimed water to rinse off your artificial grass [!!!] after your dog goes to the bathroom.

March 12, 2026 - "Conditions improved in parts of #NewYork where widespread precipitation increased streamflows, soil moisture, and groundwater. Conditions remained unchanged in #NewEngland, where frozen soils have not allowed for improved groundwater conditions. Severe drought was removed in southeastern New York, and moderate drought shrank in western New York. The U.S. Drought Monitor released on March 12 showed less than 1% of New York and New England in extreme drought, 19% in severe drought, 27% in moderate drought, and 30% as abnormally dry, compared to less than 1%, 19%,29%, and 28%, respectively, last week."

I dreamed about a place called "Wildwood" last night. It nearby, but off the main road (accessible by dirt roads), and had a food forest and gardens with plenty for everyone (humans and wildlife). The Mid Scarborough Hub Repair Cafe is a monthly repair cafe run by Scarborough Environmental Asc that typically occurs on the first or second Saturday of every month and typically has clothing, appliance, computer and bike repair available. Bring parts for fixing and please consider bringing a mask to respect any repairers who may be wearing one and avoid fragrances as some of our fixers have alcohol sensitivities. #LocalActivism does work! A couple of years ago, #PolandSpring tried to double their extraction in my town during a time of #SevereDrought in #Maine. Myself and my neighbors fought back -- with maps of the aquifers showing how everything was connected -- and how #BigWater tried to alter the maps to reflect their interests! Always keep in mind -- the more a corporation *sponsors* local causes, the more they have to be accountable for. It's usually #GuiltMoney designed to skew the public in their favor!
