@daedalus I work by Times Square and have to pass by it every weekday. Genuinely this is how it feels most of the time lately - most ads are for AI and “agentic” software etc.
I’ve gotten to the point of feeling happy when I see ads for other things and normal non-tech corporate conglomerates 😭

I just scrolled through #LinkedIn and read my feed for the first time in 2+ months. *shudders*
Enough internet for the day, I need a book and some tea to earn my brain cells back.
(In all seriousness I was shocked by just how homogenous everyone’s writing style is: every post had the same rhythm and the same uncanny, unnatural cadence. That’s not how anyone speaks! Or writes! Every sentence just reads like the author is blowing smoke up their own ass)
(Also - I didn’t see a single new idea that I hadn’t seen a year ago when I used to actually scroll through LinkedIn every day)

I keep seeing Americans who want to do something about the state of our #politics, but feel like no action they can take will do enough to fix things, so it’s not worth trying.
It’s easy to feel nihilistic. So I’d like to propose an alternative - a 10% improvement approach to political change, of sorts.
It comes from my #PTSD treatment: the idea that no one approach, skill, or intervention can make the #trauma just go away instantaneously. So instead, us humans are left with 10% solutions - things that help a little bit, for some amount of time.
The key to healing is to develop an ongoing set of multiple different solutions that you rotate through based on what feels feasible on any given day / moment. Each one helps a bit. 10%, 5%, 1%. But eventually, you get to making big changes that felt impossible at the start.
The same works for political change and activism. Sure, going to any one protest, or calling your representative, or boycotting a brand, or changing one person’s mind, or donating to one fundraiser won’t fix the entire broken political regime. But it will help A LITTLE.
And if a lot of us continue to find ways to do things that help a little, it will end up doing a lot more.
A movement starts with a thousand little steps that don’t look like much on their own.
Take that little step. Then another.

I’ve been testing a theory: many people who are high on #AI and #LLMs are just new to automation and don’t realize you can automate processes with simple programming, if/then conditions, and API calls with zero AI involved.
So far it’s been working!
Whenever I’ve been asked to make an AI flow or find a way to implement AI in our work with a client, I’ve returned back with an automation flow that uses 0 AI.
Things like “when a new document is added here, add a link to it in this spreadsheet and then create a task in our project management software assigned to X with label Y”.
And the people who were frothing at the mouth at how I must change my mind on AI have (so far) all responded with resounding enthusiasm and excitement.
They think it’s the same thing. They just don’t understand how much automation is possible without any generative tools.
