Mastodon just turned 10. My eldest son also turns 10 this month.
Like my son, Mastodon is still figuring things out and is sometimes prone to emotional outbursts. Also like my son, Mastodon is very funny, kind, and has a special place in my heart (smaller than his place, obviously).

My (least) favorite example of the “Cognitively brutal tasks” that @pseudonym@mastodon.online is describing:
McDonald’s experimented with AI order-takers at the drive-thru. When the AI would get confused, a human had to step in. Every time I saw this, without fail, the human immediately knew what to do and didn’t need to spend any time getting up to speed.
Which means that the human’s job went from “take orders” to “listen to a computer take orders and make sure it gets it right.” @pseudonym@mastodon.online

Have you noticed AI boosters being very specific and concrete about how AI will destroy all of the jobs, and very vague and hand-wavy about how AI will create abundance and remake the economy so people won't have to have jobs?

I'm not as frothy as some are about the feature creep in Notepad, but if you are, I recommend Microsoft's in-Terminal text editor, Edit.
Clean, simple, nerdy, Nano-like. And the feature set is very close to Notepad before Microsoft started fucking around with it.

Let me be clear: what we are facing in the United States are not "immigration issues."
There are anti-immigration issues. There are ICE issues. There are fascism issues.
If I had 500 characters to compose a post listing all of the problems in your life that have been caused by immigration, I could list them all and still have 500 characters to spare.

Putting out a #Fedihired request to the Fediverse: my wife Kourtney is looking for work. Part time (or piecework of some kind), remote, flexible or asynchronous hours are preferred (though she would definitely be available for calls/meetings as needed). Located in the U.S.
For the past several years, she has juggled our children and a part-time professional photography business. Prior to that, she has worked as a legal assistant to attorneys in a couple of different family law practices (note: as an assistant, not a paralegal), and has done reception and office management work previously as well. She has a BA in English.
